Poll question: I'm clueless on this whole texture thing
Edited on Tue Aug-15-06 09:15 PM by F.Gordon
I had my entry snapped and ready to go, then I get the .....
   from Ms F' on it. "Too typical... not interesting"
:(

So... it was off to the vault to see what I could dig up.

Clouds and Stuff

Bunch of Flowers

A Tree

Brown

Green

Water

Rogue Langolier:P

Thanks in advance for your vote and comments. I'm not sure what to enter. I just felt like I had to do a Poll because so many others were.

On Edit: I don't want to have conflicting Moo-Moo's so if JeffR enters "How Now" I'll send Moo-Moo back to the vault. :)

1. But its such a pretty Moo-Moo!
The Clouds and Stuff makes a nice texture photo. Very dreamy quality, and I can almost feel the rocks.

3. These are all great but I want to see
the one Mrs. F rejected. I voted for Clouds & stuff though any would work. Even looked for a new name just for you and it Nuages Surréalistes Texturés et Truc or simply Nuages et Truc.

4. To me the "typical" texture shot would be
a closeup of a textured surface. Having said that, though, I really like your last photo, even though it would fall into that category. The wood grain and artful blurring makes it stand out.

5. Well, I voted for Brown
I'm keeping my cow in reserve for a future contest (Cow Pictures?). So I voted Brown. I just like cows. My favorite is actually Water. It's deceptively simple, and a much more subtle take on texture than anything I've tried. I just like black'n'whites too.

6. Tree
Looks like a prehistoric crocodile. There's a real feel of roughness.

7. Tree and water says texture to me
although there are other photos I like better just as photos.

8. Thanks all!!
:hi:
But I'm still confused. No one pixie that stuck out?

>> Ms F's reject? I'll save that for the "Typical-Not Interesting" themed contest. And we have to have a Moo-Moo contest one of these days, so I'll send Moo back to the vault.

Really appreciate all the comments. Not that they removed this Texture Confusion Fog surrounding my head......

10. Yes, didn't you hear?
Moo-Moo is next month. I guess you can use a Moose-Moose. You'll have to check with the Moo-Moo host.... JeffR. He has the final say.

11. Well'm not sure of the "best" but on #1 I wondered about increasing the
sharpness contrast between the hard rocks and such versus the sky. So I created a (rough) mask to separate the two areas and selectively sharpened the foreground. Then I reversed the mask and messed with the brightness curves a bit to darken the sky and boost the contrast. Other than that one, I like Green, Brown, and A Tree best, maybe Green best of all although I don't see it as a "texture" pic.

Anyway another variation on #1:

12. I've heard that you're clueless.
In general, not just here! :P

Will you hurry up and enter my fav, "Rogue Langolier," before the submission thread gets full? It's only been up about 36 hours and mine was the 21st entry. My second choice is "Clouds and Stuff." I think the tree bark looks like owl eyes closeup. And I'm all over the moo-moo/moose-moose/moo-shu pork theme for one of these months.

13. Love the Brown Cow shot.
Brown Cow is worthy of printing and framing. AFIC, it fits within our contests informal guidelines for texture. The rough wood, the cow's skin, and the sand/gravel say "texture" very loud to me.

Tree and Rogue Longilier are closer to pure "texture" as I understand it.
