Photosynth by Microsoft and the University of Washington
Edited on Fri Aug-04-06 01:29 PM by Mr. McD
A photo-browsing system that enables people to combine their photos with thousands of others collected on the Internet to present a detailed 3-D model which gives viewers the sensation of smoothly gliding around the scene from every angle. The prototype technology, called Photosynth, can be previewed at http://labs.live.com/photosynth and will be available for download later this year.

1. Amazing!
It's a brilliant implementation. The virtual potential of the internet, realized. Just one negative is how much more sucked into our computers we will become. However, this is really freeing. I have been spending a bit of time on Google Earth. I'm soaring around areas of particular interest. This is like a Google Earth, but implemented through the sharing of photographs.

2. That was my "concern" when I checked this out
"how much more sucked into our computer we will become"

It's really cool and all how this works but I was immediately struck on how digital photography has become too much of this huge machine that connects us all and is causing photography in general to be more and more ... well, less personal. No individuality. No independent creativity. Just a bunch of people taking the same snaps of the same things over and over again.

Just my opinion.

5. I agree
It's getting to the point where we're not even going to need cameras anymore. Just the computer program to create whatever photo we want.
