"By that, I mean the summer abandonment of the rat race and escape to an activity or place that feeds the spirit.

It's an impression I (obviously?) got while in France, when the whole country takes a month-long vacation and about 60% of the shops and businesses show the signage: "Closed in August". There's a kind of assertiveness to it. It's saying "It only makes sense if you agree that human beings are more important than 'business as usual.'" There's a fascinating 'adjustment' that the people make at this time, even shifting from their 'normal' year-long vocations into some vacance mode - lifeguards, campground maintenance, whatever."---Tahiti Nut

9. I think of texture

more as something that invokes a sense of feel, emphasizing how something would feel if you were touching it, smooth, rough, soft, prickly, ripply, whatever.

Something like this has texture



or tree bark, a cat's fur, stuff like that.

6. had to go with the french one...

I actually took French for 5 years in HS, but I think it was actually French 1 for five tries... I love the idea of returning to the place of peace and rest. We should if nothing else slow down to look at people at rest and enjoying life even if we are too busy to do it ourselves...
