Some butterfly pics (Extreme dial-up warning)
Edited on Mon Jul-17-06 01:50 PM by Maestro
To see the exif data please go to http://Maestros.smugmug.com/gallery/691094/10/65700390 Starting around page nine you can view the photos and the exif data.

Does anyone know what kind of butterfly this is?

My personal favorite

Here is a swallowtail. This guy was moving quick so some of the pics show a bit of motion blur.

1. That flying Swallow tail is NICE.
I love that shot of the butterfly flying. In focus, without shake. Beautiful.

It's so cool how they uncurl that funny "straw" thing. (:

Truth be told though, I took a ton of shots and only a few came out as presentable.

2. Love the brillance of color in your shots!
As to what type of butterfly is the first one....

Found this cool Texas butterfly site with many pics:
(this is gallery 1 of several galleries there)
http://www.texasbutterfly.com/gallery/gallery1.php

I think it may be a Painted Lady butterfly (see page 4 of the above gallery)

Another TX butterfly site:

4. The color was good probably due to the optics on
my new lens, the EF F/4L 70-200mm telephoto I just purchased. As long as you have enough light, this piece of glass rocks! Thanks for the links and kind words.

5. Beautiful!
I've never been able to get a decent butterfly shot. Dragonflies I can do. Butterflies defeat me.

8. Thanks, but
like I posted earlier, I took a ton of shots and only a few were really presentable. But I guess that is the way all photographers do it.

6. Outstanding!
The sharpness and vivid colors are breathtaking.
Good color contrast with the purple flowers.

Kudos catching the Swallowtail in flight!

9. The bfly in the first several shots is a Gulf Fritillary
known as a "Gulf frit" to her friends.

Really nice swallotail shots. They're hard to get because they're never still.

11. Thank you for the comments and the name of that
butterfly. I am glad to hear that about the swallowtail because it was all over the place. :)

13. Those are gorgeous!
I am redoing our backyard landscape so that it is more 'butterfly friendly'. They are simply beautiful beyond words.

One of the most beautiful sights I have seen is the butterfly garden at Dollywood. Those butterflies were incredibly beautiful.

14. Thanks.
My wife and I prefer to get our seeds from this place. It's in the Texas Hill Country, a beautiful place in its own right. We were going to go by there just last weekend but it just didn't work out. It's a four hour drive from our house. Anyhow, the seeds we get from there are very butterfly friendly, Black-eyed Susans, Larkspur and various other wildflowers. They have a great selection.

Thanks for the kind words and good luck on the garden.

16. Well color me tickled pink.
I owe a lot to my new lens, the EF 70-200mm F/4L USM lens. The optics on this piece of glass are amazing, but I need a lot of light. It is not a low light lens. I am glad you liked them. Thank you.
