1. Congrats again, Immad2. Loved your pic
And obviously a lot of other people did too.

My suggestion - and excuse my ignorance if such a thing has been done before - is "Personal Best", ie. the one shot people feel is the best they've ever taken. No restriction on subject matter or thematic idea, just a chance for every entrant to put forward what he or she believes is the best shot he or she has ever taken.

3. Wow! This would be a hard contest!
I have a lot of favorites among my own work, and get all flummoxed just trying to figure out which ones to print to hang in my own house. I need parameters! I need guidelines! I need boundaries!

:eyes: :nopity:

4. I kind of need guidelines, too...
...although I'm sure we'd see some fantastic shots with Jeff's suggestions. ITF, I like all of your proposed topics. I'm easy on these things - as long as it doesn't involve people. :)

8. Thanks but l think the "Willow Hole Native" deserves the credit.
Personal Best sounds like a pretty wide theme but we will put it in the poll with all the other suggestions and "May the best theme win."

6. How about the second choice from the June Contest
Portals (doors, windows, i.e., a view through)

Sounded like a lot of people were interested in that as well.

7. Fire
Having seen Rob's great shots that one comes to mind. Doesn't need to be nasty fires either. Could be fireplace on a winter's eve sort of thing.

I do like the portal idea, though.

I'd nix personal best simply because an open theme such as that confuses the lounge... and God knows they are confused enough without our help.

10. My problem with the 'fire' theme
We are under a fire ban up here in the mountains and I don't have a fireplace. And have no previous good photos of fire. Firemen, yes, fire, no.

11. Some of my suggestions
Here are my suggestions:

We had a contest on the theme of "Strength" previously, so in that vein:

Love
Friendship
Pride
Happiness/Joy
Courage

My personal themes that I'd like:

Wichita Zoo photos
Avon Walk for the Cure Photos
Gay Pride Parade photos

Just teasing! :)

12. What about something simple like
texture?

for instance

simple things that can be interesting that we over look every day?

13. How About Red White and Blue?
and not just fireworks or the average flag image. It could be a vast interpretation of anything red, white, and blue. I think that would be fun to try and find some subjects to photograph with that theme? Just my two cents.

Rather than a subject matter.

Seriously, I think Things on Robb's desk would be great.

Really seriously this time, how about tryptics? Things in threes? Is that the word?

18. Tryptics?
You have a microscope on your desk?

trypsin
One entry found for trypsin.
Main Entry: tryp·sin
Pronunciation: 'trip-s&n
Function: noun
Etymology: perhaps from Greek tryein to wear down + English pepsin; akin to Latin terere to rub -- more at THROW
: a proteolytic enzyme from pancreatic juice active in an alkaline medium -- compare CHYMOTRYPSIN

Seriously, do you mean things in triplet? If so, would that be a series of 3 photos strung together, or a single photo of three similar things?

20. Aha! It's "Triptych"
A triptych (from the Greek tri- "three" + ptych? "fold") is a work of art (usually a panel painting) which is divided into three sections, or three carved panels which are hinged together.

I jest cant spel four shet. :D

23. Not abstract at all.
All too plain to see, in my book. This would be an interesting theme. I'd love to see what folks came up with.

24. "Ain't that America"...
This was a proposed topic last month, and it was decided by consensus that it would be more appropriate for the July contest.

At one point, I was thinking about offering to run this as a special July contest, and have the June winner run August instead, but I'm frankly a little burned-out on DU photo contests at this point, so I'll just suggest it for this month, unless someone else wants to take up the ball on the idea of a special contest.

25. My only issue with that is, we are all not Americans
MissHoneyChurch and others would have less to choose from and some of our UK friends celebrate July 4th for other reasons. "Like Thank God the Yanks are gone" or "Let'em go, the silly bastards wasted all that good tea"

How about "Ain't that "choose a country of your choice"
