2. Same reason people live along the Missouri/Mississippi
rivers, across the northern plains, on the hillsides of California...

everyone has to be somewhere.

8. Not to mention the full daylight summers!
Lived just south of Healy for one summer in a wall tent on the Nenana River. The flora and fauna were stupendous! Also, the rugged awe-inspiring beauty of the mountains, the open mesa-like areas of fields of blueberries (Look out for hungry bears there!), and the golden halo of light when the sun dips in the midnight sky....breathtaking!

9. Then you know what I'm talking about. :-)
We're planning a 5- or 7-day trip up that way for late May...from Anchorage to Glennallen, Richardson Highway to Delta Junction, then Fairbanks -- out the Steese Highway to Circle, and then back down on the Parks. It should be a great trip - that's a dry and moderately warm time of year and before the bugs are out in full force - and territory that I haven't been to since the '70s. I'm really looking forward to it. I may have to buy another memory card. ;)

10. Camped for a weekend in Circle
Can't remember what river the campsite was on, but it was stunning...so quiet, so peaceful.

You'll have a lot of fun driving that route in late May...not too many road heaves to deal with and the critters are out and about :)

4. These are gorgeous.
Gulf Coast sunsets seem to always be beautiful and you captured it all. I still miss living in Florida hurricanes or not, specially in January and February.

12. Gulf Shores Nat'l. Seashore, Ocean Springs, MS
The photos are of the barrier islands that are part of the park, which has (as far as I can tell) stretches of shore from Mississippi to Florida. They say Katrina wiped out up to 90% of the islands.

This park was also pretty wiped out. The park map they gave me was covered with handmade X's indicating buildings that are no longer there. I took these shots off a stub of a pier that used to have a gazebo at the end of it:

I only wish that they lasted longer, the other 23 and 1/2 hours are much harder to deal with..

11. These are both wonderful
But the 2nd one sucks me in. Love how that last tiny bit of sunlight is trying to peek through the clouds.

See.... no smart ass comments.
:hi:

It was tough... but I did it. Just don't get too comfortable with the "mature" F'. I don't know how long I can keep him in check. And I really do like that 2nd shot.

14. Thanks, F'.
The second shot was actually taken the second after the sun set, so it's really trying to peek over the horizon.

And I know you tag-team with WannaJumpMyScooter to respond with smart-ass comments. It's either conspiratal, or just a guy thing. :eyes:

16. Very nice
My dad, who served in the Navy, used to say, "Red sky at night, sailor's delight. Red sky in morning, sailors take warning."

17. Beautiful!
I can't decide which I like better... The color of the horizon, the reflection on the water and the grass in the foreground really make me like the 1st one.... but those sunset accented clouds in the 2nd one are amazing... and I really like the little patch of white sky peeking thru there too :-)
