This one has it all...
Fire jugglers on the stage above the ice sculptures, with speeding skaters, a Ferris wheel, lights in the trees AND whales on the side of the J.C. Penney. What could be better?

3. Fast too!
BTW: I saved your shot, and used the XP "properties" to view the metadata.
I then opened it in PaintShop ProX and clicked on "Image Information" on the drop down under "IMAGE" on the top tool bar.
The data displayed was much more extensive than that shown in the XP view.
There was even a spot for "Camera Owner", and a spot for " CameraSerial #". There was data after the "Serial #" , but it appeared to be coded (computer gibberish).

Before Bush* and the TIA Police State, the persecution of critics, and the supression of dissent, I didn't worry about Big Brother tracking me. I take pictures of protests, and other things that might be critical of the Republicans, and post them to Inet BBs (anonymously, if there is such a thing). We should be careful.
The fact that there was a space in the MetaData form for Serial# followed by coded gibberish leads me to believe that Big Brother has the software to ID the digital camera that took a pictures, and can cross check registration for OWNER and ADDRESS.
Not attempting to scare, but knowlege is power.
I doubt that pictures of mountains and snow would be of interest to Big Brother, but pictures of poorly defended Chem Plants, or toxic spills, or environmental damage MIGHT put you on a "No Fly" watch list or worse.

Can't wait to join the 20D club.

Under the current Police State, something like this could end up in "My File" at Gestapo HQ if they can track my camera with metadata.

6. And then of course there's always this...
a version of which appeared on Yahoo News. (That's me on the right with the stupid expression -- hi, Agent Mike.) If this one didn't get me on the White House's list, I feel pretty safe. Of course, I should add that I haven't tried to fly anywhere since September, so who knows?

9. I mentioned this to intheflow when we met
Edited on Sun Jan-01-06 03:31 PM by F.Gordon
Our biz site was being hit a minimum of 300 times a day by the main "spy portal". I checked the address and found the main login page for the CIA, NSA, etc. Even had the Justice Dept. hitting us for awhile. If you saw how benign our biz site was you'd laugh your ass off.

It was scary at first but then it pissed me off. All the shit going on and some fucking jerk on a computer in the NSA or sumtin' has nothing better to do....

Like I'm a real fucking danger to this country. Maybe it was my DU post outlining how Rummy funneled $ 2 billion dollars into Nano tech research right after 9-11? Always wondered why the media ignored that story.....

On Edit? Wasn't "Agent Mike" from a Bev Harris tall tale? Not that I want to get into a pissing match about Bev Harris in a photography group forum. Jus askin???

12. Oh, I don't know the back story on Agent Mike...
I've just seen other people here refer to him, and I think it's kind of funny. I'm sure they've got ALL of us on a list somewhere. This spying thing has me pretty upset, too, but I'm not going to let it stop me from saying what I want to say. This IS America, after all, and they'd better not forget it.

15. If I remember correctly......
"Agent Mike" was a secret service agent that "tailed" Bev Harris all over the country. He told her that he was "monitoring" DU. :eyes:

Nuff said. If you can't tell... I'm not a huge fan of Bev Harris. :)

And yea... it'd be nice to get America back one of these days.

...so got to watch that whole Bev Harris deconstruction from the sidelines. I hadn't ever heard of her before coming here, but it seems she kind of done us wrong.

HEY, it just started snowing here. Woo-hoo!!

21. The 20D is an exception
It puts a watermark in the meta data, the gibberish you saw, so that it can be used for Law Enforcement in the sense of making the pictures Forensics teams take usable as evidence in court.

7. If I scaled it bigger, it wouldn't fit on my monitor
unless I upped the resolution, in which case the print when I type would be so small I'd get eyestrain.

11. Here's a full-sized one that PhotoBucket successfully
Edited on Sun Jan-01-06 03:40 PM by Blue_In_AK
compressed. Can someone explain to me why sometimes this works and sometimes it doesn't? I've run photos through there before without reducing their size beforehand, and they come out HUMONGOUS. What's up with that? Does it have something to do with processing, because I haven't done anything at all to this one, it's just how it came out of the camera.

13. Don't you use Paintshop Pro?
Every version is the same. Click on "Image" and then click on "Resize". (see example below) For the web I do 100 res and 8 x 5.33 inch images. I didn't "export" this screen cap.. but after you resize you can go to "Export".... "jpg" and adjust the amount of compression (and file size).

14. Yes, I know about resizing with PaintShop Pro
which is what I pretty automatically do whenever I'm going to post something here, but I'm just saying that PhotoBucket is SUPPOSED to automatically reduce your shots for you even without resizing them beforehand, but sometimes it doesn't.

LOTS more. I'm jealous, all we have around here is Mummers. Though they are good, not going to Philly on the 1st to freeze.

On Photobucket, they seem to go by file size instead of pixel width or length. I think the maximum file size os 512 KBs. So you could have a huge pic that has a smaller file size that stays big but you could also have a downsized pic that has a larger file size that they will make very tiny.

And Happy New Year to all. Now back to the tv and the Mummers.

23. I think Photobucket increased the file size they accept
It used to be 250 KB. I just checked and it now says 512 KB. So I guess that is what they resize the files down to. However, it seems like when they resize it automatically the resulting file sizes vary wildly (but I've never seen it larger that their minimum).

That's a beautiful picture BTW!

25. Agreed, a great photo and a great photographer.
Hullboss made a wise decision in giving Blue the equipment needed to make her images in the higher resolution needed for top quality prints. This one should be submitted to the local (Anchorage???) paper for use in a report on the event, if it is not too late. Others can be submitted as postcards to tourist shops, to galleries, and so on.

26. Thanks, you guys...
I worried that this photo was kind of "busy," but there was so much going on, it was hard to avoid that feeling. The next "crowd" event I'm looking forward to is the start of the Iditarod sled dog race in February (I know, I know, it's politically incorrect, but we love it up here). That always brings out the "characters," the guys in the fur hats and long beards, barking dogs all excited to get on the trail. I haven't attended the start of the race for years and years (a lot more comfortable to watch it on TV in the warmth of my living room, LOL), but I think it might be kind of fun with the new gear.
