1. Hoi, that would be me
Macro photos is noted as a suggestion on topic for the contest ;-)
Perhaps we should have some more suggestions in this thread, then I'll make a vote out of it?

I have two myself, so that makes three. We need up to 7 more:

1. Shadow Portrait

2. Urban Winter

3. Macro Photo

4. What is a "Shadow Portrait"?
Would that be like a back lit portrait.... errr... not a SELF portrait.
:scared:

Or.... can we do obscene hand shadow puppets? Only the Shadow knows....

3. My suggestions:
Make a photo brochure on this theme: "My Home Town", this would include at least 6 photos and written text outlining why someone should visit this town. Judging to be done not only on the photos but the brochure and how well it would entice visitors to come for a visit.
Putting ones efforts into this as a contest is a good practice into learning how to do something which may someday become more than just a hobby.

other photo contest suggestions:
Night shots.

Bridges.

Churches.

Water in motion shots.

Musicians...(OK so I have an ulterior motive here...I have been photographing musicians for over a decade.)

Portraiture: "Just head shots please". Another good practice for the student of photography, posing and lighting were two items I struggled with early on. I believe that even the seasoned pro will admit that the learning process never stops with this topic.

Those are my suggestions.
