A modest proposal for the December contest...
-- WHEREAS the "Extreme Processing" challenge, which I suspected would be a curiosity with only a handful of entrants, has turned into a behemoth that will require four preliminarly polls to determine the finalists, and

-- WHEREAS the polling on this challenge will probably run at least through the middle of the month, and

-- WHEREAS the topic for the December contest has yet to be announced, leaving little time for people to go out and shoot new material before entries would have to be submitted, and

-- WHEREAS it is recognized that, during the latter part of December, people are too busy with non-cyber activites, vacations, etc., to devote their usual time to places like DU:

-- THEREFORE, be it proposed that the "Extreme Processing" challenge be elevated to the status of an "unofficial official" December contest, and that the next fully-official contest, to be hosted by mogster, be held in January (with the topic possibly announced in middle-to-late December, to give people lots of time to come up with original work).

1. Or we can have a contest theme that doesn't mean going
outside and getting cold, wet, and miserable.

But I do like your idea.

2. I have a modest proposal
That RegnaD KciN is made permanent host.

Seriously, you're done such a good job that I don't think anybody else would compare. We can even make it so you're allowed to enter photos.

What do you say?

3. Thank you
I like that much better than last month's suggestion that I be the permanent host.

4. I thought you did a good job
But that was before RegnaD kciN stepped into the picture. Anybody who uses the word "whereas" is a born organizer and leader.

Hear, hear to our new permanent host.

5. I haven't seen that many whereases
since I stopped working as a legal secretary. Are you a lawyer, kciN?

6. No, but...
Are you a lawyer, kciN?

...I did write the L.A. Law computer game.

And I did manage to get a speeding ticket (the only one I ever got) thrown out of court a couple of years after writing that game.

As to running the contest permanently...all I've done so far is to post a call for entries (and not know how to get a thread locked, allowing several more submissions than normal). Who know what may happen when I actually have to run polls?

9. I came up with the "Whereas" and "Therefore"
:silly:

Hours and hours of behind the scene planning. Actually... I'll be doing the "Finals".... I think. Not sure. Whatever Reg'K wants me to do.

12. As the songs goes, Flash comes in to save the day
Words and music by Brian May

Flash - Ah - Saviour of the universe
Flash - Ah - He'll save ev'ry one of us
Seemingly there is no reason for these
Extraordinary intergalactical upsets (ha ha ha)
What's happening Flash?
Only Dr Hans Zarkov formerly at N A S A
Has provided any explanation
Flash - Ah - He's a miracle
This mornings unprecedented solar eclipse
Is no cause for alarm
Flash - Ah - King of the impossible
He's for ev'ry one of us
Stand for ev'ry one of us
He'll save with a mighty hand
Ev'ry man ev'ry woman ev'ry child
With a mighty Flash
General Kaka Flash Gordon approaching
What do you mean Flash Gordon approaching?
Open fire all weapons
Dispatch war rocket Ajax to bring back his body

Flash - Ah
Gordon's alive
Flash - Ah - He'll save ev'ry one of us
Just a man with a man's courage
He knows nothing but a man
But he can never fail
No one but the pure in heart
May find the golden grail oh oh oh oh
Flash Flash I love you
But we only have fourteen hours to save the Earth

Flash

13. You wrote "LA Law"?
That's tutu kewl. I was a hack. I wrote a game (and some other stuff) a thousand years ago called Christmas Eve Nightmare. Put it in the public domain then a few months later I got a catalog in the mail and some scumbuckets were selling my game. Pissed me off.

15. No, I've held back to make some room for the other contests
But if the ongoing contest is 'promoted' to the Dec contest, I'll be happy about that. It will probably be a bit much if the people are asked to vote on yet another contest in December, I think.
