Cello shopping
Well, now that I've finished my first run at grad school, I am about to do something drastic. In my old age, I am looking for a cello to learn how to play.

Tried to take lessons in high school, but the school then had only a couple of cellos, and my buddies, who were excellent cellists, were using them. So I didn't get much playing time.

So any DU'ers who play cello? Any recommendations on where to find one? What about these Chinese-made ones? Are they worth it (there are a ton of them on eBay)

1. not a cellist, I'm a violist
since you are a beginner those chinese cellos will probably be just fine. Also check out shar at sharmusic.com. I get all my strings and whatnot there. They have some pretty nice setups for the beginning player. And they are more trustworthy than your average ebay seller.

If you are unsure of what to get I would suggest you call shar's order line. They are absolutely wonderful. I once called because I couldn't remember the strings I had ordered and described their coloring. The guy on the other line immediately knew which strings I needed :-)

2. Thanks for the confirmation
One of my friends (also a professional violist) recommended shar music too. I'll check them out.
Figure I'll get something to start with and then go bold.
