1. I'm very sorry to hear that.
Why are you losing him?

2. He's resigning due to health concerns.
He has over 500 patients because Sacramento Republicans saw fit to cut funding to this county. He's too ill to continue.

This county has been SO screwed by Repubs in Sacto. I lost my social worker several times...now I don't have one. The county had to lay off 30 employees at the clinic and cut hours. We have four psychiatrists in the whole county and the other three suck bad. One is inpatient only, and a fundy. One is dumb as a box of rocks. The other could have prevented his wife's suicide and didn't. He still practices!

We may be rural, but there are a lot of people here who need help. There just aren't enough workers and money to go around and now we're losing the best psychiatrist this county ever saw. Sigh.

3. That really sucks.
But I think there are crappy psychiatrists everywhere. I went to one guy who had the personality and demeanor of a gargoyle. I can't fathom why he went into a profession where empathy and a comforting manner are essential job qualifications. I even saw the chief of psychiatry at the Mayo Clinic and didn't really like him--he was kind of patronizing. Well, my rant notwithstanding, I'm sorry you're losing someone you really like.

4. Losing someone you really like is the worst...
my trusted psychiatrist died of breast cancer at age 58. Even though I was "finished" with years of therapy, I still felt comforted knowing she was around in case I needed her.

Ladyhawk, I hope that you find someone just as nice or more so very soon, but the other 3 look worthless. Maybe another kind of therapist/counsellor for the time being?

5. We'll see.
I heard that the doctor that kicked me out of my old clinic is resigning; therefore, I might be able to see my old counselor more often. Can you believe that when I needed help the most, this horrible doctor made me leave the clinic where my good friend and counselor saw me...where my primary care physician saw me? I'd been seeing this counselor for years and I finally found a PA I trusted, a young woman who hated Bush as much as I do.

Although my old counselor has problems of his own this year, we've been keeping in touch, mostly as good friends. He and I are so much alike, but his health is terrible. I half-expect him to drop dead.

Funny, but he's one of the few people I really love. It's a good relationship with all the proper boundaries. No one had ever shown me how to do proper boundaries before. He's a good counselor and a good friend. Tonight when my nephew called, I realize I love my nephew, too. He's a good kid. I have to talk to him, tell him NOT to follow his step-brother into the military. Shrub can't have my nephew!
