Schizophrenics, Guns and Wal-Mart - Discuss

Since this is more of a "support group" type forum and I kind of feel bad about provoking stuff in here, I would just like to point you all to a thread in the Gun Control forum that some of you might be interested in.

I found an interesting article about a lawsuit where a mother is suing Wal-Mart because they sold her a gun that she used to kill herself, and they should have known because they sold her medication for Schizophrenia a few days prior to that.

But I don't think they can be held liable for that person's suicide, especially seeing as how she bought the gun at a different store than she had the incident with the cops in.

To my knowledge there is no law saying that a mentally ill person can't own a gun unless he/she is also a felon. There would probably be no way to enforce making it illgeal to sell a gun to a mentally ill person, because all you'd have to do is lie. I don't think we should have a national registry for people that are mentally ill. That stinks of big brother and seems like it would be a violation of one's right to privacy. I could see a lot of discrimination coming out of something like that.
