5. He is a GREAT person in person!
Had the opportunity to meet Skinner in person at Kephra's funeral in Carmel, IN and he is just as great in-person as he is online. We are fortunate he and the mods built DU for us!
Funny, brilliant and honest; it was an honor to meet him. I hope that when we meet again that it will be under better circumastances.

7. Hi, SpeedwayDemocrat....
The three admins are really special guys IMO - and this is something I strongly sense even though I have not met them in person.

I did meet Will Pitt at a lecture here a year or so ago....the only DUer I have seen in real life. That was a fun and inspiring happening too!

:D

:hi:

3. The thread has been locked...
I guess that it is too emotional of a subject to exchange point of views.

4. Suicide is a very complicated event
but I do admit to some anger over the glorification of a life style of excess drinking and excess drug use. Social drinking and maybe even a little marijuana is OK ( I don't really know enough about it to say for sure) but Thompson went way beyond that. Maybe it was self medication, but he certainly had access to better solutions. For anyone with mental illness to abuse drugs is like a diabetic cleaning out a candy shop. It's not good for anyone, but for us it can be deadly.

6. Great post
And I don't agree with the idea of "self-medicating" with alcohol and recreational drugs--or glorifying them. I particularly get irritated by those who do so and mock users of prescription drugs as "weak".

But yeah, Skinner's cool beans.
