For those of you looking for a place for quiet reflection and discussion,
I remind you that the Christian Liberals/Progressive People of Faith is an open group, free from flame-wars (usually). Please come on over and visit with us, tell us what you're feeling, etc.

Reaching out to my brothers and sisters in Christ,

RevCheesehead :grouphug:

2. David.
I read your post in the lounge about leaving the Church. Please don't let the actions of men force you out. The Church is so much more than that.

5. Thanks, and I try to keep that in mind,
and there's so much about the church that I love for my own reasons, but I don't know if I want to support, by being a member, an organization that, IMO, has such a backwards outlook on certain key issues, for me that's birth control and population problems.

So, does the ritual, history and majesty, which I adore, really outweigh the fact that in certain areas, the Church is actually working counter to God's will? In other ways, I grant 100% that it is doing some great good. But why not try to find an organization that I feel does ONLY good?

It's hard to work out, but I won't leave lightly, and I will certainly always want to come back, if I do ever leave. Maybe someday the Holy Spirit will really move the Cardinals, like it did for John XXIII, and the doors will re-open.

6. My mom, who was a very progressive Catholic
used to say certain things were not Christ's rules/laws, but men's. I try to live that way. Social justice is so important and maybe this Pope will continue the work of JPII in that arena. Maybe he will come around about the Death Penalty.

4. I couldn't understand why I was so broken up over John Paul's death
Now I know. My instincts were telling me that this man was coming. God help us! :( :( :(
