Kerry strikes me as one of the least affected of the top politicians. It is amazing that genuine doesn't come across as real to many as a superficial image does. At the risk of misquoting - didn't the Shapiro book speak of Kerry as the one who warmed up and related the most affectionately with people AFTER the cameras were off, while Edwards who would have a spectacular smile while filming was on, was a more serious, less smilely person when the camera was off?

The pictures Tay Tay posted of the Sunday bar B que look incredibly good - and this is MA where Kerry has been well known for at least 25 years - and they still seem to like him.

When he was here in Milwaukee one late afternoon and into the evening, they did the rally, and then it got dark and most of the crowd left, and the outfit packed up, Teresa was nowhere to be seen--but JK was still there, working the rope line under the park lights, not in a hurry, shaking hands, signing things and having a word with each one as if he had nowhere else to go and nothing else to do. And the cameras were all long gone by then. My strongest impression of him that day: Presidential, in the highest and finest sense of the word.
