Miracle in the blogosphere - Huffington writes something positive about JK
In a more reasonnable world, this should be nothing, but it is so rare that she has something positive to say about Kerry that it is worth noting.

...
John Kerry effectively counterattacked the Republican's scare tactics nonsense today -- and every Democratic leader should do the same every day, without fail, until the message finally breaks through the static. The thwarted London attacks, said Kerry, "expose the misleading myth that we are fighting them over there so we don't have to fight them here. In fact, the war in Iraq has become a dangerous distraction... Nearly five years after the attacks of 9/11, we are not as safe as we can and must be... The 9/11 Commission's recommendations to secure our most vulnerable infrastructure remain virtually ignored. And homeland security funding has been cut for cities like Boston and New York."

1. Good find!
Too bad she and others didn't spend their time spotlighting Kerry's vision and exposing Bush's spin.

Thankfully, the layers of BS are being stripped away by reality.

2. Ed Schultz too -
he spent a chunk of his broadcast today reading and talking about what Kerry had written about terrorism right before the 2004 election. He might have been reading from the NY Times magazine story. And talking about Kerry with enormous respect.

Article here: http://www.nytimes.com/2004/10/10/magazine/10KERRY.html?ei=5090&en=6d6a8954d476e1f2&ex=1255233600&partner=rssuserland&pagewanted=print&position=

I'm no a big Matt Bai fan, but I love this part of the article:

When I asked Kerry what it would take for Americans to feel safe again, he displayed a much less apocalyptic worldview. ''We have to get back to the place we were, where terrorists are not the focus of our lives, but they're a nuisance,'' Kerry said. ''As a former law-enforcement person, I know we're never going to end prostitution. We're never going to end illegal gambling. But we're going to reduce it, organized crime, to a level where it isn't on the rise. It isn't threatening people's lives every day, and fundamentally, it's something that you continue to fight, but it's not threatening the fabric of your life.''

This analogy struck me as remarkable, if only because it seemed to throw down a big orange marker between Kerry's philosophy and the president's. Kerry, a former prosecutor, was suggesting that the war, if one could call it that, was, if not winnable, then at least controllable. If mobsters could be chased into the back rooms of seedy clubs, then so, too, could terrorists be sent scurrying for their lives into remote caves where they wouldn't harm us. Bush had continually cast himself as the optimist in the race, asserting that he alone saw the liberating potential of American might, and yet his dark vision of unending war suddenly seemed far less hopeful than Kerry's notion that all of this horror -- planes flying into buildings, anxiety about suicide bombers and chemicals in the subway -- could somehow be made to recede until it was barely in our thoughts.

3. Sen. Kerry was and is right.
Ahm, the good Senator should be very familiar, after all this time and all the things that have come to light about Pakistan and how terrorist networks are funded and so forth, with how the terrorists operate. The show of force that Bush and the neocons pushed was doomed from the start. Kerry stone-cold knew this. That was never a part of the original IWR, and so forth and so on.

What Kerry did know from Iran-Contra and BCCI was how the shadier side of terrorists networks operate. He knows where the money comes from, he knows a lot about how the money gets distributed and laundered around the world. And he knows a damn lot more than the neocons about what works in stopping this stuff. Yeah, you never stop all of it, but you at the very least don't feed it by enraging the native population and giving them a reason to hate you. Sigh! There are certain times when the hurt from '04 comes back because you just can't stand the idiots who are in office right now and the incredible amount of damage they are doing. This is one of them. Sigh again!

4. the "fighting them over there so we don't have to fight them here"
is one of the most disgusting lines and justifications for going to war in Iraq. attacking a nation that had nothing to do with the 9/11 attacks and causing death and destruction to all the people there.

it's selfish , hateful, just plain disgusting. we are going to go into your nation and YOU will be the victims of a nation that becomes a battleground for war. while we are same in luxury.

and these hateful disgusting vile bastards are supposted to represent the party of morals and values ? hahahhaha, what a fucking joke.

Cheney is such an ugly ass disgusting beast. the man is cold hearted, he hates people and celebrates when American Soldiers die.
