I was looking for something else and found video

Go to about 19 minutes into this video. That's John Kerry from 1992. Yeah, he was really skinny back then. (His hair was still jet black.)

Welcoming the Dalai Lama to Harvard, 1995. (Geez, the Senator's hair is full-on salt n pepper here.)
He's only on for about 45 seconds.

Discussing the after effects of the 2000 election. Sigh! Long speech. (11/29/00)

10/20/03 Hardball filmed at the IOP .

Hey, I was feeling generous tonight. It's a long Senate recess. Enjoy these 'oldies, but goodies.'

Thanks for sharing, Tay! Seeing them in chronological order is a long, strange trip indeed.

Watching them in succession, I was jolted through time from the punchy giddiness on the eve of the first Clinton victory in 1992 to the dignified graciousness of a senator welcoming a revered world personage on behalf of his state in 1995, on to the (to me) heartbreakingly optimistic speech in 2000 after Bush had been installed in power where he expresses hope that the system will right itself (so hard to remember how little we knew then about just how bad it could get!) and finally to a feisty Hardball appearance during the primaries with some fascinatingly specific discussion about Iraq, before the national campaign when media coverage of his position was reduced to misleading soundbites.

The result of all this time travel is to make me very hopeful about the future of Kerry's influence. He has been constant on all the issues that matter, but he has learned so much in the last 14 years about how to deal with audiences and with the media, and how to convey a national as well as a local state vision. Almost three years after the last video in this group, he is even more skilled and experienced. Most instructive -- thank you for linking to them!

I watched them last night, I especially like the 2000 one, as I had very little knowledge of Senator Kerry back then. But it showed exactly why I chose him, he is so damn smart and so in political life for the betterment of the country and the American people. I love listening to him answer questions he is so thorough and honest, that is rare these days.
