Hillary now getting Kerry's old heat
This is from Bob Herbert's column:

http://select.nytimes.com/2006/08/07/opinion/07herbert.html?hp

It reminds me a lot of the charges of Kerry flip flopping on the war--except in Hillary's case there is a much stronger argument against her:

Casual viewers could have been forgiven for not realizing that Senator Clinton has long been a supporter of this war, and that even now, with the number of pointless American deaths moving toward 2,600, her primary goal apparently is not to find an end game, but to figure out the most expedient political position to adopt — the one that will do the least damage to her presidential ambitions.

Mrs. Clinton is trying to have it both ways. A couple of months ago, she told a gathering in Washington: “I do not think it is a smart strategy either for the president to continue with his open-ended commitment, which I think does not put enough pressure on the new Iraqi government.” She then added, “Nor do I think it is smart strategy to set a date certain.”

Slick Willie has morphed into Slick Hilly, as the carnival of death in Iraq goes on.

(A true progressive--I have missed reading him since the NYT limited access. )

I don't think Clintonian slickness is going to do so well in today's political climate. After 8 years of false promises and failure, people want to know where a candidate really stands. The stakes are high--the world is crumbling around us. Fence-sitters will not be given trust or support. We want the real deal with no "funny business"!

edit: Oh and that reminds me--did anyone see Cokie Roberts this morning? She was going on about how Clinton should be listened to because he won the presidency--never mentioning that he only got 42% of the vote (I think)and that it was because of Perot, really. So if Clinton should be put on a pedestal for that, so much more should Kerry be listened to because of getting more votes than any other Democrat ever! She makes me so mad--what an uninformed, narrow-minded, clueless journalist.

the problem with the whole Clinton "slickness" stuff is that Hillary just doesn't have what her husband does. yeah, right now she can get away with him using his talent to help her. but if she wants to run she will have to stand next to other candidates who also want to run and do her own thing without her husband helping her.

people will actually get to see her and the others and compare side by side. i think that's where people might see her weakness.

3. a centrist dem with her head in the sand.
Cokie that is, not Hillary. She needs to wake up to new realities: * has pushed a lot of people further to the left. And if Lamont verifies this tomorrow, there will be a lot of centrist Dems re-thinking themselves.

But JK is already, there just by being who he's always been. :)
