Is this the Clarkie in the Kerry forum week? :)
Just wanted to make sure you guys saw this ImpeachPAC ad which makes good use of Senator Kerry's "lie and die" line and which WILL run in CT after all....

http://youtube.com/watch?v=FV6Fbgp3J-s

Here's the letter from ImpeachPAC this AM:

Dear Carol,

Today Comcast - the nation's largest cable company - announced they would broadcast ImpeachPAC's TV ad criticizing Joe Lieberman in advance of Tuesday's primary in Connecticut.

There is one simple reason why they changed their minds - because HUNDREDS of you called Comcast's President, Brian Roberts, and politely asked Comcast to support the First Amendment.

YOU made the difference. THANK YOU!!!

Our ad was meant to have an impact, but some thought it was confusing. So we produced a shorter ad that packs a more direct punch.

It's called "Lie and Die" and you can watch it here:
http://youtube.com/watch?v=FV6Fbgp3J-s

The ad features lies by Bush, Cheney, and Lieberman. Each lie is separated by a photo of an Iraqi child who has died because of these lies. It then quotes John Kerry as he declares, "Our policy is not 'cut and run.' Their policy is 'lie and die.'"

And it concludes with a simple question about Joe Lieberman: "6 More Years?"

That's the choice Connecticut voters will make on Tuesday. And it will be a truly historic choice.

If you know any Connecticut Democratic voters, please forward this message to them and ask them to watch our ad - YOUR ad.
http://youtube.com/watch?v=FV6Fbgp3J-s

Ask them if they want "6 More Years" of George Bush's single most important ally - Joe Lieberman.

If they can't decide, help them make the right choice. Because this vote won't affect only Connecticut - it will affect our nation and our whole world.

If you'd like to help us reach more Connecticut voters with our ad, please contribute here:

And if you live in or near Connecticut, please help Ned Lamont directly with his final push:

Thank you for all you do.

1. I liked the 'lie and die' line
Edited on Fri Aug-04-06 06:57 AM by TayTay
It was very appropriate after the Abazaid, Pace, Rumsfeld testimony yesterday before the Senate Armed Services committee hearing. I think Lakoff and friends told Kerry not to use it because it violates the 'framing' thing that I don't quite get so I haven't heard it for over a month or so. (I like it. It was nicely framed to me. Sigh!)

Thanks for checking in. Come back anytime. We as Dems still have more in common than we have in dispute and it's nice to talk to other good Dems about our common future. (And again, Gen. Clark is both a good man and a good Democrat. I may have a different candidate down the road, but that doesn't mean I can't like a most worthy advocate for good government and good democratic principles. The General, and his wonderful wife, are fine people. It's good to have them out there speaking truth to power.)

2. Thanks....
for the nice post...

Yep, John and Teresa also...good Americans, good people. What a different world world we might be seeing now if only he was in the White House! Argh...it's maddening to think of it.

But, we're in desperate times now. We've got to stick together. We've really got to win this Nov and John Kerry has sure been out there trying to make it happen. Good for him...

4. Thanks for posting this.
As Tay said Wes Clark is a good guy. I respect the fact that he is trying to correct the right's message by going into Fox and answering lies directly - I guess with Clark, it may be like Kerry said about himself, "he's been through much worse."

I agree the Democrats have to stick together. Clark seems to be working very hard too.

6. I cuncur with Tay's post. Welcome here
and we do have more in common than not. (I still read the Clark forum.) I think Clark is a great person. I admired him in 2004--specifically the way he held himself to the media and became a part of the Kerry campaign in such a positive way.

I don't believe all democrats gave their heart and soul to the campaign like Clark did. (In fact I'd say 95% of the Democratic representatives did little to nothing to see to the success of Kerry/Edwards in 04.) But Clark and Cleland were two people who definitely stood up and who represented trustworthy people.

3. I think I understand the reluctance on the line
In context, Kerry was speaking about how "cut and run" is a slogan to diminish an alternative policy that is not simply "cut and run". In that context, he said what was theirs, "lie and die". I doubt Kerry would say that in a more formal setting because he knows how damning it is. (It is more accurate than "cut and run" is for his plan, so it's not honesty.)

It seems almost that the Democrats, observe a code of conduct that the Republicans through away a long time ago. Cheney said the terrorists would win if Kerry won. That is far nastier than "lie and die", when it is now unarguable that they lied and people are clearly dying for as Kerry said, "a policy that is wrong". So, I ask myself, why did I wince when Kerry said that and (I suspect) few Republicans did when Cheney made all his evily intoned statements of doom if Kerry won?

Part of my reaction was paranoia that the Republicans would use it against Kerry. That I would for a second concede to the Republicans the right to judge a man like Kerry, comes from the way the Republicans define themselves as the "grownups" - even though their behavior was the worst type of 13 year old behavior I ever saw. So, my concern was that evil people would distort it completely as disrespectful or uncaring that soldiers are dying or dead - when in fact, Kerry is clearly reacting to soldiers dying for nothing or to save politicians' faces - just as he was in 1971.

However, the success of any slogan is whether people can remember it. I think we all do. Kerry also threw out a couple of positive alternatives - I think one was redeploy for success. The fact that I can't remember one and am unsure of the other is interesting - I liked them better and thought they framed the issue - lie and die is memorable.
