Kerry to address fire fighters in Clinton, Iowa
Kerry to address convention in Clinton, but only by phone
By Ed Tibbetts | Comments(4)
Former Democratic presidential candidate U.S. Sen. John Kerry, D-Mass., will give an address to the state convention of the Iowa Professional Firefighters union in Clinton tonight. But it will not be in person.

Kerry, the party’s 2004 candidate, will make his remarks by telephone, his staff said Monday. Kerry was endorsed by the International Association of Firefighters in 2004.

The senator had been scheduled to appear at the convention in person, but a decision was made late Monday for him to stay in Washington, D.C., because of the Senate’s voting schedule, a member of his staff said.

The state firefighters convention will be at the Best Western Frontier Inn, 2300 Lincoln Way, Clinton. Kerry is slated to make his remarks about 5 p.m.

A possible 2008 presidential candidate, Kerry was last in the state during May when he made remarks about the Iraq War at Grinnell College in central Iowa.

1. How do you think a telephone address will go over? He has a good
excuse.

2. Remember the one Casey did
when he got snowed in in Scranton? It was to campaign volunteers, but still...
What did you think?

5. I think he should have tried to make it. Fair or unfair.

Speaking of Casey. He is going to appear at the Arts an Heritage Festival at Twin lakes in Hempfield Township on July 4th at 3:30 PM. I will most likely be handing out literature. Your always welcome, if you are interested.
Also, Casey is making an appearance even closer to home on Sunday, July 2nd at 10:30AM.T his is at Laura's catering. No huge event-just a local appearance.

Rendell is also making an appearance at the Arts and Heritage Festival on the 3rd. I figured I would mention it to you, but like you, I am still angry at him for his Kerry comments. Alicia is volunteering for that appearance.

Hey,Go Dem's!!!!

6. I went to a Rendell event since the Kerry comment.
I'll support him because the alternative is just too unspeakable. But I'm still angry.
Maybe on the Hempfield Twp event. Will you need help?

8. Sure, we can always use help.
Being a newly elected committee person, I have decided to try an outreach to those in my precinct. I will be either calling and/or sending flyers out to notify all the hibernating Dem's about the appearances. I am hoping to at least get a few new faces to come out and hear from the soon to be future Senator from PA.- Senator Casey.

3. We are dead certain he didn't go to Iowa?
Cuz the Senate took that vote on the anti-flag burning amendment and then scheduled nothing. They went to an early break today and will probably get out of town early tomorrow for the 4th of July break. I wonder if the Senator was able to make any last minute plans for Iowa.

7. That's weird. My article is dated the 28th
but clearly that article shows the set-up.

Personally, I think he should have thumbed his nose at the vote and gone to Iowa. Seems easy to explain:

"Our fire fighters deserve our respect for all they do in keeping us safe..." and then show them handling 9-11 "And they had this arranged months prior to the Republican's bill that doesn't keep us safer."

What an imagination I have, huh?

9. The timing is bad, but not voting on this to be in Iowa
would likely hurt more. The Republicans got exactly what they wanted - a close vote with them "losing". The question is whether Clark, Edwards or the various governors went.
