Pure Catnip from the speech the other day! And pics.

This young man read a letter he had written to Sen. Kerry to start the event on 6/26/06. From the program:

Remarks Jesse Rogers, creator of recycling program at his Great Barington school

Jesse and his family are environmental activists residing in Great Barrington. Jesse and his mother started a recycling program at his school and his family is involved in numerous local campaigns to clean up and protect the environment. Jesse's interest in the environment stems from his love of animals and science, something he hopes to pursue a career in someday.

In February, Jesse sent a letter to Senator Kerry, along with a copy of Dr. Suess' environmental book, "The Lorax," saying Dear Senator Kerry. I'm sorry for my sloppy handwriting. I know senators don't expect sloppy handwriting most of the time but I am a 7 year old and you must expect sloppy handwriting from a seven year old. You have done a great job and people will help to keep that job going. I am sending yoou this book because it is about the environment and about how if you cut down tress it affects wildlife. You can read it to people when you get the book. I hope it will affect the changes of the world in a little way.

Jesse turns 8 years old next Saturday.

***************

That was just adorable. I believe that's his Mom with him.

BTW, nice eyes.

Is that all women around him? Again? He's like a whole foot taller than anyone else in this pic.

What is the guy in the baseball hat looking at? Is it "wow, I'm nearly as tall as Sen. Kerry!" or is it "Wow, nice hair Senator!"

This was taken outside of Faneuil Hall, when the Senator stopped traffic.

BTW, Vek told me a little story about being inside. It seems there were these 3 girls who got to say Hi! to the Senator. One girl was overcome with meeting him. She thought he had passed on by and she starts shrieking about how much she loves him and how great he is and how he is so good-looking. The Senator was right behind her as she's saying this stuff, really loudly. She turns around and looks up and sees him there. Kerry was laughing. The woman then apparently lost her mind and started crying and stuff. (As related to me.) The Senator was concerned about her and asked if she was going to be all right. Guess she was, she was just overcome. (Okay, that doesn't happen much in Boston. She must have been from out-of-town.) Trials and tribulations of being a rock-star!

Ask Vek someday to tell you her 'near-stalker' story from the '04 appearance of Sen. Kerry near her home. (Well, relatively near.) It's a great story.

Also, there was a family of 4 visitors from Tennessee outside of the hall. I asked them if they were waiting for Sen. Kerry to come out after the speech. They were concerned they had missed him. I laughed and said that you would see him when he came out, he's always the tallest person around. Sure enough, a few minutes later they easily spotted the good Senator and took some pics. (See, honey, I told you if we went to Boston we could see famous people. LOL!) They were very happy to see him, btw.

Oh yeah, and I heard that the other intrepid intern actually hitched a ride with a certain famous couple to the event. She can tell that story for herself.

10. Thanks for the recap. I needed this catnip.
I've been analyzing Iraq too much tonight, and this is exactly what I needed to get out of that dark place . . .

Oh my God -- that is so funny about that lady -- sounds like Beatlemania (well, he did before have the mop haircut!!). I would like to hear more stories from the others, too, if they feel compelled to do so!!

15. We lost another one in our area, too.
This soldier liked "diaper duty". The picture of him with his baby will make you cry. Another good man gone. And for what?

14. Thank you so much for the photos and the catnip Tay!
Love hearing these kinds of stories. (Can't wait to hear the one about the other intrepid intern - hmmmm, that sounds interesting. :)) I know it's been said that American's are apathetic about politics, and I guess that's true, but I find it funny (and heart warming) that certain politicians like JK and Bill Clinton can't even walk into a room or outside of a building without people stopping in their tracks to look or mobbing them. (I just can't see that happening to Bill Frist though - I really can't.) That was a great story about the woman shrieking - he definitely has the power to make women do that.

I think now that JK has achieved rock start status, the primaries (if he chooses to run ;)) will have an entirely different flavor than in '04.

16. wasn't it like he was a rock star back in the 70s too?
He's probably used to it! It's nice to see, though, that he's still "got it".
