Henniker soldier buried amid tears, smiles, hugs
The other Democrat was U.S. Sen. John Kerry, of Massachusetts. Kerry said he grew close to Jean Durgin before the 2004 Presidential election, when she offered her support during Kerry’s frequent trips to New Hampshire as a Democratic candidate. Yesterday, Jean gave the senator a photo of her son holding a Kerry-Edwards poster.

“They’re a wonderful family, and I just said, ‘I have to be here,’” Kerry told the New Hampshire Sunday News after the service.

3. It's a hell of a thing.
The way she said, "he's safe, I don't have to worry about him anymore." Just imagine the pain she's gone through all this time--to be able to feel that his death has any positive aspect.

it did bring me to tears. It must of been very emotional for Senator Kerry and Mrs. Durgin as he was given that picture.

Where were the Senators from N.H. ? We know who really cares about the troops.

5. I'm glad the family didn't have to see Gregg and Sununu.
They probaly would have been told to leave if they had shown their faces.

8. Sen. Warner said the other night that he attended funerals
when it was appropriate. If the family didn't want the two senators there, then of course, they wouldn't go. Let's not assume anything here. Their absence may be due to the family not wanting them there or they felt that they shouldn't come because of the mother being active in Democratic politics. Sen. Kerry took their place.

7. Sen. Kerry's compassion and loyalty continually amaze me.
This was not at all a political move, this was a quite gesture of respect for this young man and his family. It's such a tragedy that so many continue to die.

10. that's who he is.

That's part of why he's the Senator from Massachusetts. Apart from politics, apart from maneuvering, apart from being 'wicked smaht,' there are other reasons, reasons that you can't put on a campaign brochure.

Whome and I have often said, it's something in his eyes. Something that would say, I know a little bit about suffering and loss and the tragedies of war. I think Mrs. Durgin knows that. I think that's probably why she had Sen. Kerry there at this time of extreme sorrow and he was a comfort to her.

9. This was just shown on the local news here in NH.
They showed a quick clip and it showed Sen. Kerry talking talking with Jean Durgin.

23 years old. This is so sad.
