JK to speak at Faneuil Hall on June 26th
Just got the e-mail. I'm there!

Dear K,

I hope that you and your family can join me on Monday, June 26th at Faneuil Hall where I will be speaking about securing real energy independence and protecting our environment. For more than the last 20 years, these causes have been central to my work in the Senate: fighting to preserve the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge and developing an energy plan to achieve genuine energy independence.

I remember when you couldn't even mention environmental issues without a snicker. But then in the 1970's people got tired of seeing the Cuyahoga River catch on fire from all the chemicals. So one day millions of Americans marched. Politicians had no choice but to take notice. Twelve Congressmen were dubbed the Dirty Dozen, and soon after seven were kicked out of office. The floodgates were opened. We got the Clean Air Act, the Clean Water Act, and the Safe Drinking Water Act. We created the EPA. The quality of life improved because concerned citizens made their issues matter in elections.

It's long past time to make the environment a voting issue again. So please join me for an important discussion at noon on Monday, June 26th at historic Faneuil Hall in Boston. Please arrive by 11:30 a.m. Tickets are free.

RSVP to attend the speech on June 26th

With the high cost of gasoline, the imminent danger of America's dependence on Mideast oil and the gathering threat of global climate change, American politicians are stuck in avoidance. We must take bold action and dramatic steps to address these enormous challenges.

Thank you, and I look forward to seeing you on Monday, June 26th.

Sincerely,

John Kerry

1. Request for permission to live-blog just sent.
I will let you know how it goes.

Given that this is on a work-day, do you want to help blog it?

Any other Mass-souls who can attend this speech who want to live-blog or assist? Anybody at home who can help with the posts and such?

Thanks!

10. If it was next year, I couldn't do this.
Edited on Mon Jun-19-06 07:56 PM by TayTay
I have to burn off some vacation time this year because of changes at work. So I have to burn off 4 weeks between now and Dec 31st. That's why I can take half days and stuff. (Though it will be tricky. I will need a LOT of help to make this work.)

Ahm, FedUp, ahm, accident of geography? Ahm, I did something really good in a past life? Ahm, coincidence? I have no idear what accounts for the good fortune of being able to see the Good Senator on this rather increasing schedule. Ahm, am I getting a swelled up head? (Pride goeth before a fall. I really believe that. If I screw up, then this will not continue. I will try not to screw it up.)

As this will happen on a weekday, we will need massive help. As Faneuil Hall is still not really a wifi area, we will have problems. There are wifi areas that are accessible all around Faneuil, but that Hall is catch-as-catch-can. I have asked Our Intrepid Interns to go to Faneuil and see if they get a signal on a weekday. No signal, no live-blog. Then it's plan B, which is to go to the known wifi sites or hotspots in the area and file stories after the fact.

I have a cell phone and can be outside of the building at need to allow someone on the web to hear the speech in progress. No internet for me, but this is a sort of second-hand live-blog possibility. (Just covering the contigencies.)

Also, I need someone I can send pictures to right after the event who can them resize them and fix them in a photoshop like program and then post them. I learned last time that trying to be all things to all people is just wrong and detrimental to the effort as a whole. I need a volunteer to take these pics and fix them up and then make them available to any blog or site that wants them. (I learned something from the last time. Yeah!)

Also, someone else has to be Julie, your cruise and entertainment director. I can't do any coordinating of who is going and how we meet up and possibly have a coffee or lunch. I just can't do it. It takes up too much time. (I think it was a cross between dumb and selfish of me to think I could do this last time. I have to concentrate on one thing. It's just too fast an event to do more than that and unfair to anyone actually waiting for me to get things done. Sigh, again, I learned something.)

And I am counting my chickens before they are hatched. I have asked for permission to live-blog, but have not heard back yet. I will know more tomorrow.

All help is needed and wanted. Let me see what I hear from the press office tomorrow and go from there.

11. Also,..
I've invited a friend, and if he can make it, I'm sure he'll be willing to act as photographer. I've got to check and see if I can hook the camera software on the laptop. That way, he can take the camera, shoot the photos, give them to us and we can upload the photos live, that is if the connection will support an upload.

9. I hear there's a bad case of Kerryitis going around.
Maybe you'll get lucky Rox and catch it. Of course there's only one cure for that disease and you'd hate to let in linger ...

12. Kerry-itis?
Hmmm...well since "itis" means "inflammation"...Kerryitis means "a swollen Kerry".

Oh dear. Doesn't sound like a bad thing to catch.

13. I think the live-blog will be a go. Volunteers needed!!!!!
-- People who can post on any threads that are put up.

-- People who can take photos, do a resize and touch up and then put them up online for others.

-- People who can go to Faneuil Hall to do the live-blog.

-- If people want a lunch or coffee after the event, a coordinator of that.

Thanks!!!!!!! You people rock!

14. I've just arranged to get a laptop for the occasion.
So I can do the live blog.

I'm not sure about the photos because the camera might not be compatible with the camera software, but I'm looking into that.

16. great! I can help with several things.
I have two digital cameras I can bring. One of them might be compatible with the software being used by the laptops. (Kodak, Hewlett Packard). Let me know, guys. Tay, how is your camera with your laptop?
I can help with the live-blogging, like whome did last time.
Coordinating lunch or coffee is iffy if it entails trekking through Boston. I tend to get lost there without my hubby's sense of direction. But if we decide to stay at Faneuil Hall (which might not be a bad idea if it's a scorcher that day), I can herd us cats, or at least try :-)
We should compile a list of who is going, so we have an idea of what to expect.

18. Excellent and thanks to you both!
We can coordinate via e-mail on this for the speech specifics.

My laptop has software to download photos from my camera. It's supposed to work on other cameras as well. (We shall see, I guess.) I also have the USB connector, so we can test this out. (Thank you!)

DD: Welcome aboard. You, LevensonK and I can 'live-blog' this event. (If the connection cooperates. Otherwise, we will be filing 'after the event' reports from two blocks down the street. It's better than nothing.)

We can eat at Faneuil Hall. Unless it's raining. (It might.) That is just easier.

Thanks! This is going to be fun. I hope that THK is there. (I love her!)

17. Damn, I'm jealous yet again.
On that Monday the program I work for is being monitored by our state director. Gee, which sounds more fun - listening to John Kerry speak (again) and helping out with a live blogging event, or jumping through bureaucratic hoops for a tiny amount of state government funding? I think you guys win again! I'll look forward to reading your reports of the event.

20. Thanks - I can't wait to hear what he has to say
By the way, those of us not in Boston may also have to watch threads here on the WMD intelligence investigation the Senate Democrats are doing - they were already questioning which Democrats would come - on the thread I saw I posted Kerry was speaking in Boston. (usually when they say which Democrat - they mean Kerry - even if it's for attendance on a committee he's not on.)

Kerry speaks at noon, and the Dem policy hearing is at 1:30 on C-Span3, so I will be watching that online.
