Webb and Miller to appear on Hardball Thursday evening
Okay, non-Virginians -- the primary is this Tuesday, and we Kerrycrat Virginians are having a heck of a time with this. We need all the help we can get!! So can you all suffer through Tweety and check out these two and tell us what YOU think. Really we don't mind advice on this one. It's so confusing it makes your brain hurt.

Miller, Webb tentatively OK `Hardball' date

By BOB LEWIS
AP Political Writer

RICHMOND, Va. (AP) -- Democrats Harris Miller and James Webb apparently have another televised clash before next week's Senate primary, this time before a national audience.

Both campaigns said Monday they would accept an invitation by MSNBC's "Hardball" with Chris Matthews to appear together on his program this week.

Miller's campaign on Monday first announced it had accepted the invitation. Webb's campaign conditionally accepted later, after learning it would be Thursday afternoon.

"If that's when they (MSNBC) can do it, then we can do it," said Steve Jarding, a senior adviser to Webb.

There was no immediate reply Monday to a telephone message left with a spokeswoman for MSNBC.

Both campaigns understood that they would likely appear for only about 10 minutes with Matthews, the program's host.

3. I'm guessing he will swoon over Webb's military background.
Just a guess.

4. Going in, Tweety will favor Webb, just like the rest of the Beltway
pundits have. However, if Miller turns out to be better spoken than Webb, then this may sway the Tweetman into reconsidering since he favors above all issues the ability to talk well on TV.

5. I'd do it like this
A. Can Miller really win in Virginia. B. Can I cast a vote for Webb and still look myself in the mirror. More than one thing that he says here makes me cringe. But then, I don't live in Virginia and maybe this is how people think there. http://www.webbforsenate.com/issues/issues.php#iraq

It is, after all, about taking back the Senate and House in November and we need Virginia to do that.

6. You have a point. Until something like THIS happens, and you
wonder if Webb has what it takes to run a campaign:

Ingrid Morroy, Treasurer
James Webb for US Senate
1960 Wilson Blvd.
Arl., VA 22206

Identification number C00420075

Reference - Pre-Primary Report 4/1/2007 - 5/24/2006

Dear Treasurer -

It has come to the attention of the Federal Election Commission that you may have failed to file the above reference report of receipts and expenditures as required by the Federal Election Campaign Act, as amended. You were previously notified of the due date of this report.

You will be allowed four (4) business days from the date of this notice to file the report to avoid publication.

The report must be filed with the Federal Election Commission, 999 E Street, NW, Washington, DC 20463 for House candidates or the Secretary of the Senate, 232 Hart Senate office building, Washington, DC 20510, for Senate candidates. A copy of the report must also be filed with the Secretary of State or equivalent State officer unless the State is exempt from the federal requirement to receive and maintain paper copies. If you have filed the report timely by certified or registered mail, please notify us immediately, in writing, of the certified or registered number and the date that the report was sent.

In addition, the failure to timely file this report may result in civil money penalties, an audit or other legal enforcement action. The civil money penalty calculation for late reports does not include a grace period and begins on the day following the due date for this report.

Cross checked this with a fairly pro-Webb blog -- it's true. He missed the deadline.

I think there is a "Howard Dean" aspect to the Webb campaign. You've got fiery, passionate, fervent followers who act like Webb is the Messiah while Miller is the Devil (I won't reference the "joke" post that postulated that Miller really was the anti-christ, and blatantly referred to his Jewish heritage). The Raising Kaine blog does NOT have the above story up -- so if that was the only blog you read for Virginia, you would have NO IDEA about this fiasco (and it's a community blog). But at least with the Dean campaign they DID raise gobs of money before they blew it. Webb apparently doesn't "like" fundraising. I mean, if Webb is THE GUY to beat Allen, then if he wins the primary, can the Miller people run his campaign? Because they have TV ads, nice mailers, more info on his positions (even if I don't like them all). They're on the offensive in the press all the time. In short, they're running a competent campaign, unlike Webb.
