Why am I laughing?
Edited on Fri May-26-06 10:05 AM by ProSense
The Bush administration, Congress, Capitol Hill is together a big fucking joke. Specter votes against Hayden, but more than 20 Democrats vote to confirm. Then while Specter is giving what someone rumors to be the case for impeaching Bush as his explanation for voting against Hayden, breaking news that shots are fire in the Rayburn building trumps him.

I'm laughing, but I probably should be crying. More Homeland Insecurity! More chaos! Enough is enough!

1. Thanks for Sen. Kerry voting against both nominations
Kavanaugh is not ready for prime time and certainly not ready for an appointment to the second highest court in the land. Sen. Kerry was consistent in voting against Gen. Hayden, as he had severely criticized him for his NSA domestic spying program.

Sigh!

2. The more I think about this vote on Hayden the angrier I become.
There was no reason to play it safe on this nominee. The American public did not support domestic wiretapping and data mining of their phone records. All polls except the "old" ABC poll backs me up on this. We could have made an issue out of this and gotten the public on our side.Apparently, the play it safe Dem's didn't want to chance anything controversial dealing with security issues. Why, because Rove will attack them on it during the election. Well, how about privacy rights? What if there is more to this data mining that is yet to come out? Those that voted yes may well end up regretting their votes down the line.

5. I agree - they should have at least had more debate on
what exactly the program was and who controlled access to the data. There was already the question of whether it was used to see who journalists called. The question is whether it was used politicly to see who politicians call or to target likely persuadible people.

I'm surprised to see Biden voted yes.(unlike Hillary and Bayh)

6. I don't get Biden's vote either.
I was going to do some searching for his comments about wiretapping and the new data mining.
