PHILADELPHIA (AP) -- State Treasurer Bob Casey easily beat two challengers Tuesday to win the Democratic nomination to challenge Sen. Rick Santorum in a race that national Democratic leaders hope will underscore public disapproval of the nation's Republican leadership.

With 17 percent of precincts reporting, Casey had 86,295 votes, or 82 percent of the total.

With more than half of precincts reporting, Casey had 289,059 votes, or 84 percent of the total.

Meanwhile, a grassroots effort to oust state lawmakers over a large pay raise scored a victory as Senate Majority Leader David J. Brightbill, R-Lebanon, conceded defeat. Early returns also showed Senate President Pro Tempore Robert C. Jubelirer, R-Blair, running second in a three-way race.

What I'm loving most? Currently Sandals is beating Pennachio. Hee hee. (I came very close to voting for Sandals myself. I hope he runs for something he can win - seems like a good guy.)

8. Not surprising

Sandals is from Philadelphia, and he came across very well in the debates. I think after the debates many Pennacchio supporters may have switched to Sandals - similar positions, more palatable package. Also some November Casey supporters might have been convinced to throw a vote at Sandals in the primary, to encourage him to run again for a more attainable position.

IIRC the ratio of Dems to Pukes in Philly is something like 90-10.
