2008: The Case For John Kerry - Run John, Run!
2008: The Case For John Kerry - Run John, Run!
April 18th, 2006 @ 9:52 am

The Fix makes the case for John Kerry to run in ‘08 today. Although Kerry adamantly refuses to to make no announcement until after the ‘06 mid-terms, Chris Cillizza points out what makes Kerry viable in ‘08. We’ve made that case on the Dem Daily, many times in the past.

Kerry has made no secret of his interest in a second bid for the presidency, emerging as a leading voice in the party calling for an exit strategy in Iraq and continuing to use the e-mail list he compiled during his presidential race to raise money both for himself and for a slew of Democratic candidates and party committees.

“Run John, Run!” - Chris Cillizza, says. I could not agree more!

1. Nice points were raised here.
It will be interesting to see what he sees as deficits later on in the week. I thought this was a fair look at the positives and it was nice to see. Shows that some people have noticed the tenacity that the good Senator has shown.

6. Posted -
but it's pretty messed up - because I had trouble typing into the narrow window, especially as I was interrupted 5 times by my daughter. (I agreed with the WP that Kerry's VN service is godd next to McCain's. I actually think it shows far more Presidential characteristics.)

7. It can't be any worse than the regurgitations of RW spin.
Seriously, though, thanks. :)

8. No
Just embarrassing when I re-read it. I'm a horrible typist and many sentences are fragments because I was interrupted and didn't re-read the whole thing.

But I think the points are reasonably clear.

9. I just had a quick look
It's pretty scary out there. And trolls are coming out of the woods. One comment toward the end reads "President Bush has a BS from Yale and an MBA from Harvard and he know what the definition of is is. gigolo john Heinz-kerry was rejected by Harvard and had to attend 3rd rate Boston College." And now that I am feeling sick, I'll try to get back to work.

11. I love it.
The same people who love to call JK and elitist turn up their noses at a fine institution like Boston University.

Just makes me want to fight harder.

13. The "T" people
Edited on Tue Apr-18-06 03:34 PM by ProSense
(trolls, "T" people gives them a from-another-world label), anyway, they are out in droves. Where is IB's Kick-Ass-O-Meter?

Bush could have been the president of Harvard and he would still be the stupid, bumbling, tyrannical liar, before us. He is a demagogue who set out on a power grab. Unless his plan was chaos, he failed miserably. If his plan was to create chaos and end up in control, he has been found out; therefore, he has failed miserably.

Kerry kicked his butt in the debates, and has demonstrated (past and present) that he has superior intellect. The anniversary of Kerry's 1971 speech is a few days away. I wonder what Bush (snort!) was doing then?

Kerry was also smart enough recognize and marry a woman of considerable compassion, and she was smart enough to have him.

The "T" people invested there souls in a demagogue and must now cast aspersions on Kerry to justify their existence.

The problem is that no matter what they say, wherever they say it, Bush is somewhere making a mess of things.

20. Strange that they refer back to where each was 30 plus years ago
If I recall, one of them was credible, articulate and knowledgeble in the debates. The other wasn't and his own team had so little confidence in him that they wired him. So, even if he would have been brilliant in graduate school, which he wasn't, drinking and possibly cocaine ate his brain.

As to BC, one of my niece's friends was accepted to Harvard and rejected by B.C. (Also in Kerry's case, from Tour of Duty, they told him they couldn't consider a very very late application - not that he was rejected having applied. )

16. It is easy - I second rox63's statement
There are so many repeating obnoxious RW comments. (The anti-war stuff, that Bush is smarter, that he had a bad attendance record in the Senate, etc) The Democrats are weird too - there seems to be a huge Bayh contingent. As Bayh doesn't poll well, it's not clear where they are all coming from. It really really is sad to read. Especially knowing that he will print the negatives later this week.

But, after Saturday, I think we all no the trolls will be out in force. It just seems so unfair - He should be President. A fair election or a half way decent press would have been enough. Did anyone ever thing they would see that day where someone could get caught wired to get the answers for a Presidential debate and the paper of record would suppress the story because it could bias the election?

17. This is a great

comment from the WaPo link:

Seem's like a lot of people are convinced that because they see Kerry as a buffoon, irrelevant and a loser, just about everyone else in the country does too.

Kerry is in a unique situation. Just months after he lost the election by 60,000 votes (5 million would be from the GOP talking points), Bush started his downslide and buyer's remorse set in. Today's Harris poll has W's approval rating down to 36%. From the time he lost, Kerry has not given up being a thorn in Bush's side. From the Kids First Health Plan, Iraq, the hurricanes, Iraq, Small business legislation for the hurricane areas, Iraq, ANWR, Iraq, Alito, Iraq, the scandals, and Iraq. Kerry is giving a speech Saturday you may want to listen to. If you never HEARD his testimony to the Fullbright Comission (4/23/71), you might want to do that. Kerry can speak to the mind and heart.

Change the game.
Does the coach of the losing Super Bowl team get fired?
Is the team considered unlikely to win the next season if they don't get a new coach? Do you really think politics and being the President of the US is easier than Pro football?

Other countries keep the losing national candidate as the opposition leader. The next election they are ready with name and personality recognition, a record the voters are familiar with and a better chance to win than dropping out for four years and starting over.

Why are some so convinced that political candidates who have failed will continue to fail? Business considers failure and persistence the path to success. Kerry has won a lot more elections than he has lost. The Republicans have lost and won. The Democrats might give it a try.

The wind has changed. What the heck is wrong with windsurfing? (I personally think golf is an idiotic game-but I am not blind to it's popularity) The guy is a genuine athlete. He does not fall off skis and snowboards. He plays a game on ice skates called hockey; he rides a motorcycle - for which he has a license.

I have to share this passage from "Rad Decision" an online novel :

" What persuasion would you be, by chance?”

“I never paid much attention. Politics to me always seemed like my sisters having a hissy fight.”

“Oh, to the contrary, our political system is far worse than that.”

Ain't it the truth.. Maybe we could make it better

18. That is a fantastic response
Reading the responses over there was depressing - but her response even puts them into perspective. There are at least a thousand reasons one could legitamately fault Bush. Kerry made a few mistakes, but none that reflected badly on his character, intelligence, competence or his abilities.

That they use words like buffoon actually shows how little they have - on any talk show, Kerry is easily seen as articulate, serious and is often able to suggest alternatives in a refrehingly intelligent way. He is inately dignified and Presidential, even when extremely angry. At this point, the fact that he is mentioned makes him relevent.

22. That and a large Bayh contingent
What's up with that? The next one oddly may be easier to answer becuase we'll be refuting the paper's arguments.

What I find more heartening is that there seem to be far fewer long threads on real liberal/progressive/Democratic blogs or boards where the Kerry trashers out number the good Kerry posts. One that was likely designed to be a trash Kerry and Hillary thread was easily stopped yesterday as the author got few people to join him.

10. Money matters!
That's why all of my political donations go through John Kerry's offices. Every dollar is a vote for JK!

Thanks KG for this happy article.

12. Yes, it does.
A lot of people wish that weren't true. I think a big challenge is pointing out that JK does AMAZING things with the donations he earns.

14. That's where I'm at, too!
I actually am really beginning to like Howard Dean now. But I still would rather give my money to JK's PAC than the DNC. I think my hubby did give to the DSCC, but I told him I want everything through JK from now on.

And yeah: I trust him as to which candidates he supports. He isn't backing either Virginia candidate against Allen for Senate, which tells you a WHOLE lot, doesn't it?
