That was a terrfic interview. I was ecstatic on how he handled immigration too, exactly right.

That last comment was funny - so quick though.

He did a great job on the real security thing - referencing that the newspapers noted they were the 2004 issues. He restated them very nicely.

When Big Ed said he wished JK was President, it really got to me. JK's answer was terrific: "I wish you were the Senator from MN." Gosh. This was good stuff. You know: Ed is good for Kerry. There is a genuine chemistry there. And I think they play off each other well. You get the feeling these two guys would sound just like this sitting in a bar over a few cold ones.

If anyone hasn't gotten Big Ed's book yet, I strongly recommend it. I haven't finished it, but what I have read is really good. There are a couple of mentions of JK in the book too. Of course, I cheated and read those first. :D

I was kinda wondering about the crowd...just thought ED was on the road. Too bad, I'd like to see ED run for Sen. of MN. I do like Al (and I've read a couple of his books too) but Big Ed for Senator just makes me smile.

I believe Ed is from neigboring North Dakota. I got a good impression from eharing Schultz today, a lot of people in GD don't like him ebcause he talks about sports and such but you know thats cool, he means well and I think he can appeal to the kind of people we need to have for us better than a Mike Malloy type.

24. Yeah, he's a denizen of Fargo, but he did play football for MN so I've got

MN stuck in my head when I think of Big Ed. He's really a cool guy (a reformed Repug) and a big fan of JK. Now that I have listened to both interviews, the Franken one was more subdued. It's funny, but I haven't listened to Al Franken since his Sundance show got cancelled. He sounds different as a disembodied voice. Big Ed was much more energized.

As for sports, they are a big deal for a lot of Americans. My favorite sport, on the other hand, is watching Congress on C-SPAN. :P

Maybe because the Al one was live with a large crowd. It seemed to work against complete answers - though Kerry did explain what Bush didn't do on nuclear proliferation.

27. The one thing

I liked about the Franken interview was the audience reaction, which was very favorable to Kerry's remarks.

I think the one thing that John Kerry gets people to do is listen, and that is so needed. Even with the interview on Imus and the snarkiness that went on before he came on, when he was speaking and the panned the audience, people were listening, his words were being sucked up in many minds that may have never thought to listen before.

P.S. speaking of C-Span and I confess to being a C-Spanaholic, it is tuned into on my TV so much that I have the C-Span logo imprinted on my big screen TV. :crazy:

29. I was surprised that he seemed to get more applause

than anyone else, including Boxer. The crowd may not have been the same over the 3 hours - but he got far more applause both when he was introduced and when he spoke. I assume that Franken draws a liberal/progressive audience. It does suggest that the Luntz focus group comment that he generates anger is not true here. (This was a Frankin event, not a Kerry one - the crowd should represent the liberal base in that are.) Obviously, some applauding may not want him to run, but their overall opinion is likely positive. (they could have been silent or unenthusiastic without being rude.)

26. Yup, it's on Amazon, but I purchased it through a link on his site. It

is called "Straight Talk from the Heartland - Tough Talk, Common Sense, and Hope from a Former Conservative."

He talks about himself, his background and how he saw the light. He was a Rush wannabee who began to open his mind after a visit to a homeless shelter (he met his wife there) where he saw the reality of what it is like for those people. He goes on to talk about what he sees happening in this country. It is a great read and it is kinda sad in a way because it was written before the election in 2004. There are a few references to JK.
