and he has betryed us.He betrayed Kerry and Kennedy for his own agenda. He did NOT support the filibuster but did everything he could to discourage it. I know he voted against cloture but he would have started the filibuster and not left it to Kennedy and Kerry if he relly wanted it to succeed. He kept saying we didn't have the Votes. Last I checked we had 45 Senators and needed 41 votes. It is the job of the Leader and the whip to get those votes. They didn't do it? Why? They need to be replaced! Now. I think we need a petition to replace Reid.

1. I would not blame Durbin on that

He was strongly for a filibuster, argued for it during the caucus (the only name that appears in the NYTimes except Kerry and Kennedy as supporting this) and apparently whipped as much as he could. It is hard to whip without the support of Reid, though.

I agree with you on Reid. How do you convince the Democratic Senate that the move has to be done, though. Reid wanted the post. He has lobbyed for it BEFORE Daschle was defeated (another reason I do not like him).

2. Convincing them would have been easier
if Reid was on board and pulling for it. Why they couldn't all figure this out on their own is beyond me? They're voting no, vote no on closure for impact. Oh, the waste of time argument. Lunacy!

3. I am not really. Durbin needed the support of Reid and he didn't get it.
LBJ NEVER would have allowed something like this to happen when he was Leader. He KNEW how to get votes and how to get Senators to tow the party line. THAT is the kind of Leader we need. I know he isn't a majority leader like LBJ but that is the kind of vote getting take no prisoners mentality we need in a Leader!
