and he looks so honest and of such high integrity and character and dignity - how did anyone not give him all 7s. But at least he moved from 39 to 38.

21. I think if we tthink of this as a game and not a poll,
it would work better. I was able to move Arlen Spector up a space by doing a round of 'ones' for those Repugs in front of him.

I like Barack, as he is my junior senator and all - but if we really want to have JK to move up, we need to 'one-hit' the senators in front of him - as undeserving they may be. That is if we really want to take this seriously.

Edited on Fri Dec-30-05 10:14 PM by karynnj
many ahead of him - it actually was a better strategy than giving lots of people 1s. I did rate the Hawaii guy down when Kerry was right behind him - but he deserved it because of the agreement to vote with Stevens on Alaska things- even when they were the difference on ANWR. (Then I felt really guilty and stopped - oddly I felt worse rating someone else down than by cheating and voting early and often. )

But you're right that it would be nearly impossible to get Kerry as number 1 without 1 rating the top ones.

25. Once we get him to the top slot
then we can more fairly rate the others. We have ten months of playing with this. It won't mean anything (whatever that is) until September anyway.

I guess I am just a tad competitive... its a problem. :)

26. Just from playing with it and looking at the graphics
it looks like the very top ones are pretty close to 7, and it takes a lot of 7s to move up one place - and it will take more and more to change the score (as the denominator gets bigger and bigger). Competitive here too. I think the main thing is to be high enough to be in the top 20 - so he gets a chance in step 2.

Just traded places with Kennedy - lots of 7s, cause how can you give Kennedy low mars?

Hillary is now at 17 - having been aroud 45 two weeks ago and in the 30s last week. Must have a group of people voting her up - so I guess there's a Hillary counterpart to us somewhere. But we must have been more persistant as it took us only 3 days to move Kerry to the top 20.

Hillary is up to 12 and Biden 16. Feingold is down to 10. Nelson is 7. Harkin is 2.

The only thing I can think of is that the ups have people who found this recently and they're giving them lots of 7s. (Which is fair- as we've done that too)

61. See post 9 it could even be a small number of people
I have no idea what happened to Durbin. Others who fell at the same time were Feingold and Stabenow. Oddly, Hillary, Biden, Nelson (why ???) and Lieberman really moved up. There was nothing Biden did inthe last few weeks that would logically give him any momentum. (Maybe some centrist publication or blog highlighted the contest.)

It seems that Kennedy has a lot of people moving him up. Obama moved down this week - but it might just be all the Kerry (who could they be), Kennedy and Harkin voters.

68. It looks like someone has really hacked the whole thing though
All the Senators now have very very high scores - so there is almost no difference between the top and bottom. Changing the scale in the middle is also very weird because if say Kerry's average is 6.5 (due to a lot of obsessive people giving him 7s), does a 6, lower the score.

69. I agree, there's something screwy going on.
You can give someone all 1's and bump them down about six spots.

Also, for the record, one of my Senators (Richard Burr) is currently sitting at #100. Now while I basically feel that he is a * suck-up and not much of a Senator, there is NO WAY he should be ranked 100, behind the likes of Senator Man-on-Dog, Senator Barfbag, Senator Hulk and so many others. So there. That's my one and only defense of the man. Please don't ever ask me to do it again!

McCain - for stabbing Kerry in the back and being a nasty person
Frist - too many reasons to name
Chambliss - for smearing Clealand
McConnell - general nastiness, but he was also the jerk that refused to give Kerry 10 minutes
Stevens - Nastiness over ANWR

The whole top row are great.

I'm a little concerned about the Russell Bldg thing. I doubt Sen Kerry was there. Only dem names I've heard are Dodd and Byrd.

really terrifies me. Remember that attack that killed those civilians in Pakistan? The timing was kinda frightening. Thank God JK'd already left, but still...

I wonder where exactly they got the reading.

101. This has been hacked big time. Feigold can go from 1-3, but
Kerry is unable to overtake him at 4. Kerry can't move ahead. The more you vote for Kerry the more you elevate Feingold.
If Feingold has so much support and is such a good senator, why was it necessary to go to this extreme to cheat?

158. I'd guess Cantwell supporters are making with some mischief and doing it
at Kerry's expense. The only way that could have happened is if her supporters were also rating Kerry down. That is not too cool, since no Dem should rate ANY other Dem down and I am certain no Kerry supporter treats other Dems like that.

161. There had to be many many "1" votes
The bars on the others didn't get bigger but Kerry's shrunk. He's number 1 now he needs lots and lots of "6" tomake it harder to do this. (There mey be some more moderate/DLC/centrist Democrats voting - Feingold has been in the bottom half for at least a week - so it may just have been harder to counter Kerry's good ones.

162. We're not the types to freep anything. If people want to be larcenous

Notify the site and tell them that someone has been fooling with their poll. They will see it.

163. The site is easily freeped. The owners have to know this. it may
just be a battle of the most devoted and diligent supporters. At this point one would have to question all the standings and might even suggest that some were not legitimate. Personally, I see nothing wrong with voting up a particular Senator as many times as possible- as long as other good Senators aren't voted down just to enhance another's chances.

164. According to this letter writer
(Click on "Letters") it's us who are doing the freeping. We are apparently the "pulse of America" and we didn't even know it. I'm with you Wisteria, I've never voted down a good (read Democratic) Senator. I've mainly just voted for JK up and Senators like Santorum and Allen (among others) down.

Truth in Polls

I have set here, voted time after time, proving these "polls?" can and are being rigged. I have sent you e-mails, showing where Kerry "fans" are deliberty voting time after time, to rig this in Kerry's favor. My question is, when you know what is going on can you honestly publish this as real are you telling me that a few people from Democratic Underground hitting the Kerry button over and over, are the pulse of America, No, why are you allowing this?

We don't want to force people to register so unfortunately that makes our poll susceptible to "Freepers." "Freeping" is a term coined by the right-wing site FreeRepublic.com. It is when a Web site or blog calls to flood a site with votes in order to shift results in a certain direction. Although Freeping is a result of a certain group's bias, our poll is open to Freeping by all sides of the political spectrum. It is also a reflection of one side's motivation and tenacity to show their side.

Can we help it if we enthusiastically support Senator Kerry on this forum along with many others across the country?

167. Well, Ms. Woolley, many of us refuse to vote more than once, as we are
honest and determined not to freep ANY poll.

Those who do have done it on their own, and are not reflective of most Kerry supporters who eschew that type voting.

We are also not the types to vote DOWN any other Dem senator.

Why Ms. Woolley targets Kerry supporters is a curious thing, though.

Ms. Woolley is a DU'er who happens to read what we have posted in the Kerry group and saw this post and then assumes we are freepers, how else could she mention DU. Well to Ms. Woolley there are more of us then you think.

"It is also a reflection of one side's motivation and tenacity to show their side. " I'm sure it's not just us.

(Also makes me wonder if they enjoy that intensity as it increases the number of times people come to their site.)

176. Like Highlander, there can be only ONE.
While it might be honorable to rate each Democrat according to what we honestly believe, the bottom line is that there will be only one winner. This isn't a horse race with first, place and show. Everybody is going to sprint for the finish line at the end of this thing so a good lead now will increase our favorite senator's chances.

Right now the margin is still fairly slim and there could be a concerted effort at the end that would drastically change the results we are now seeing.

Just an FYI to consider:

If you right click on the red status bars and check the image properties, you will see the image size. While I can't tell how many in either number or percentages each pixel represents, there is a ratio that can be seen by comparing the status bar sizes for each senator. Senator Kerry is only 2 pixels away from those closest and 4 away from those (democrats) furthest away. (All bars are 6 pixels high and the length is what I'm referring to.)

In other words: the lead is deceptive so don't forget to place your weekly vote!

179. It started to get silly the more they tried to explain the plot.
The first one left just enough unstated so that it was easier to suspend disbelief. And didn't Christopher Lambert get kinda creepy looking as the saga progressed? He was kinda cute in the first movie.

178. You are so right - we need to vote Kerry (and just Kerry up)
Edited on Thu Aug-17-06 07:12 AM by karynnj
We also need to be sure to be there on the last day - I am sure - especially given the letter on the site - referenced up thread - that the site doesn't exactly discourage aggressive voting.

Kerry is pretty far ahead - Kennedy had 12 pixels, Kerry 15 (now 3 ahead) - but that means Kerry is 25% higher than Kennedy. The danger is people voting him down - which was clearly what happened when he went from 1 to last and Cantwell went from the second row to first. (from memory - they were the only ones with huge changes.)

192. Watch closely in case they pick top 10 and reset counter like they
did when they narrowed it down previously.

If this happens and we are not on top of it, it could get ugly.

They might not do this, but I'm just trying to anticipate what might happen.

195. I figured you'd pick up on the mathematical significance once the visual
difference between the graphics was mentioned. I'm a bit rusty on my math. Is this as huge a lead as it appears to be?

I'm still concerned because twice they have changed the poll (dropping from 7 to 6 for the maximum rating and narrowing the field to the top 20). I really don't think they will lower the rating numbers again because (at this point) that would give an advantage to the frontrunners.

196. The lead is huge
Kerry is over 41% higher than Durbin and Kennedy. They told us at the beginning that they would reduce it to the top 20 at the end - but I don't get the rescaling in the middle or fact that the bars in that middle time period were completely mixed up - though the Senators selected for this last phase followed the order in the charts - not the strange bar length.

I do agree that someone might do a lot of freeping at the end - and as you said a huge lead is our best protection.

Edited on Tue Sep-05-06 03:45 PM by _dynamicdems
This was really fast. In less than 24 hours, he jumped from 7th place to 2nd.

edit: don't get me wrong, I like Feingold and am kinda happy to see he hasn't been forgotten after that criticism he got a while back for speaking his mind. This does show that a concerted finish line effort can be effective.

198. It's amazing how close second place likely is
Kerry's at 17 pixels, All the other except Reid and Levin are at 11 pixels - Kennedy and Boxer are down from 12 last week. Kerry is now slightly over 50% higher than the second place group - and there are only 10 days to go! We need to keep vote!
