So if you find yourself flying this holiday/Christmas/Fitznukkah season, and you get laid over in Denver or another Southwestern city, take a minute to peruse the bins full of semi-precious stones. Especially pay attention to the John-Kerry-eyes, AKA sodalites.
For a long time, I've called the color of Kerry's eyes "sodalite"... the perfect description for that dark-blue, just-this-edge-of-other-colors hue. Later on, I looked up sodalite on Google. And not only is its astrological sign Sagittarius, same as Kerry's; but these quotes just about perfectly remind me of him:
Sodalite strengthens the power of mind over body and bridges the gap between your thoughts and your feelings. Fosters knowledge, learning proficiency, consciousness, communication and wisdom. Sodalite is an excellent stone for use in groups providing fellowship and solidarity and a common goal and purpose. Helps get along with others and aids in group work, particularly for mediators and peace makers. Good for healing rifts in partnerships and relationships, and helps bring an end to arguments or disagreements. Excellent stone to enhance all communication skills.
This stone helps us unite the logical with the spiritual. It also helps free us from old behavior patterns that no longer serve us.
Wonderful stone for creative types, balancing both sides of the mind, and allowing you mind to come up with the emotional expression of your ideas in physical forms.

http://www.sobrietystones.com/resources/GemBook/Stones/meanings_gemstones_sodalite.htmSodalite is a very striking semi-precious gemstone made up of beautiful swirls of navy blue and white and makes beautiful beads. It is considered a stone of trust and rational thought without the emotions that can sometimes cloud judgment. Thought to bring calm to its wearer sodalite has a strong feminine (yin) polarity.
It is said to vibrate with the Third Eye Chakra, which facilitates intuition, psychic awareness, ESP and insight. Sodalite is associated with the thyroid and is highly effective when worn in a necklace. Wear it when you want to loose a few pounds. It helps in communicating and will give confidence to speak more and communicate with your lover, friends, and family. By enhancing self-expression and communication peace and happiness will come easier to one’s life. It is believed to strengthen the immune and lymphatic systems of the body. By strengthening these systems it balances the mind and the body, resulting in spiritual growth and overall better health.

http://www.sunflowercreations.com/stonepages/sodalite/sodalite.htmThis dark-blue stone is one of the most grounding of the blue stones and has a natural affinity with the third eye center (between and slightly above the eyebrows). Its function is to calm the emotions and the mind and to help one view a situation and the choices which may stem from it with objectivity and detachment. This also means that it can help to quiet any doubts you may have about your ability to make a decision, i.e., it quiets the inner critic. In addition, it can assist in dissolving old mental, reactive patterns, helping you to realize that you don't have to do things the way you've always done them.
Sodalite is additionally helpful for reviewing a decision once it's been made, and is believed by some to help extricate people from the coils of complicated lifestyles. If you are faced with a decision, sodalite is an excellent stone to use in meditation. Place it on your forehead and contemplate the situation on which you are working. Ask for guidance in making the decision. If you feel yourself coming up with old solutions just because they're familiar release then and allow sodalite to clear the path for new ideas.
Sodalite is not one of the flashier stones; it doesn't sparkle or shine. Its energy is quiet, calm, and deep as the midnight sky.
