Ahm, especially since I am usually so wordy. An update on Boston that will be oh-so-quick.
Everyone did get here. Mother Nature did her best to take us out, but Kerrycrats are made of stern stuff apparently. We all made it to the Park Plaza yesterday and got a chance to meet in person. (And we are an interesting lot let me tell ya.)
In attendance: IslandBlue, GlobalVillage, MH1, Rox63, Vektor (& friend), WEL, Firespirit, GLMRGC, Whome and TayTay. (What a crew.)
It took a while for everyone to assemble. Our yung'uns were starving, so we sent them off in search of a decent bowl of chowda. (We could have sworn we said take-out, but they had a nice full lunch at Legal Seafoods which caused the rest of us to try and figure out where they had gotten to anyway.) I was in a hurry to get people over to the Beacon Hill section of Boston because the streets are a slushy mess and there is a lot of very treacherous ice around. I feared walking around The Hill in twilight, cuz we might not be able to see and someone was going to spill arse over teakettle and go tumbling down Mt. Vernon St. So, we finally assembled and left for the tour. (Except for Vek & Friend. They had a prior appointment in Cambridge on Sat and they will get a separate tour of Beacon Hill maybe tomorrow morning before they leave.)
Anyway, we sloshed through the frozen and wet streets of Boston and over to The Hill. People seemed to like it, as the buildings look very Victorian and quaint. (And Christmassy or Holidayish, whatever.) We went up 35-45 degree inclines in ice and snow and held on for dear life in certain places, but we made it up Beacon and then over a few streets and then down Beacon Hill to take a look at the Kerry Residence in Louisburg Square. (Nice place you got there Senator! And someone did shovel out your spot in front. Whome and I were laughing that there was no lawn chair, per Boston tradition, to 'save' the space. I guess no one is going to park in that spot anyway.) It was interesting last year whenever any of Kerry people were at this house. The neighbors all got to know the Secret Service and were nice to them and I could point out where the sharpshooters would have been and all that stuff. (Well, it's kind of interesting, don't ya think?)
We had another harrowing trip through the ice to get back down Beacon Hill (nobody fell, thank goodness, but it was close in spots.) And it was cold. And the freezing water was mainly attracted to the legs of people who are unused to winter. So we had to go back to the hotel and warm up and talk. (We just sat around talking for at least an hour and then my part in the tale ends, as I had to go home. Others can tell what they did last night. I hope it was great.)
Today we are going to walk the historic Freedom Trail. (Bunch of wicked old stuff, very historical.) Btw, I told them that Beacon Hill is old stuff, the Freedom Trail is wicked old stuff, and parts of the North End are WICKED old stuff. That's the distinction. (Is it from the 1600's, the 1700's or the 1800's? Mr. Kerry's house just goes back to 1827 or so. It's merely old stuff. Faneuil Hall goes back to the mid 1700's. It's wicked old. Paul Revere's House goes back to 1680. That's WICKED old.)
Gotta go. We will have mega-stories to tell later about today and most especially, tonight. (If it doesn't kill certain ones of us by sheer excitement.) There are big doings that I am not at liberty to divulge, but stay tuned. It should be, ahm, the stuff of many stories.
