According to TNR Kerry is a DailyKos Pleaseasaurus
with Feingold.

In a long article that tries to describe Democrats as pro war and anti-war, Michael Crowley basically says that Kerry (and Feingold) are whoring to the kos crowd, but offering nothing.

The piece is well written (style, not substance) and funny to read, though with very little substance, but I could not see something less accurate than the Kerry's characterization. (I wonder why? :sarcasm: )

One particularly cunning variant of the "Cut and Stay" Democrat is the DailyKos Pleaseasaurus. These versatile creatures deliver a highly appealing mating call to the party's angry antiwar base--particularly blogosphere liberals who traffic sites like DailyKos.com--by issuing troop-withdrawal calls that seem more dramatic than they actually are. Chief among such creatures is Wisconsin Senator Russ Feingold, a longtime war opponent who wants an announced timeline for full troop withdrawal by the end of December 2006. In reality, Feingold's exit strategy comes with major, often overlooked caveats that essentially call off the withdrawal if security conditions don't allow for it. Likewise, John Kerry preened for blogosphere liberals in an October Georgetown University speech savaging the Bush administration for its management of the war. "or misleading a nation into war, they will be indicted in the high court of history," Kerry thundered. "History will judge the invasion of Iraq one of the greatest foreign policy misadventures of all time." But Kerry's actual prescription is remarkably tame: a drawdown of 20,000 troops after the December Iraqi elections, followed by nothing more specific than "the withdrawal of American combat forces linked to specific, responsible benchmarks." Scientists expect to see more Gradualmorphs mimicking such tricks in 2008 primary state locales like Iowa and New Hampshire.

1. They are what to the KOS crowd?
Edited on Thu Dec-01-05 02:04 PM by TayTay
Whoring? Damn they ought to get their money back, so far, it ain't been very satisfactory for any of the participants.

You know, they say if you are pissing some people off you must be doing something right. Sen. Kerry must be doing lots right, he seems to be pissing people off left and right.

2. It's remarkable
he ever accomplishes anything, what with all his trying to make everyone happy. :sarcasm:

TNR, like Kos, is fighting for a shred of relevancy after they Liebermanned themselves into oblivion in 2004. Good luck with that.

3. But...."Kerry thundered" ?
:-)

Yeah he did.

:loveya:

Funny that has to come from TNR, in piece sort of trashing him for doing it for the "blogosphere liberals" (who refuse to notice when he thunders).

I'll take it, though.

5. I'll take it too, though TNR does not consider that as a compliment
Note how they are starting to diss Hillary, now that she has written her email.

They are all for people not to attack Bush on the past, just as the WaPo is.

11. thundered? lol
Not the Kerry I saw--but did you notice the flash in his eyes as he said that the troops don't belong to *'s policy? I noticed that the second time around. I guess the best word for it would be "indignant"-- but that's not a strong enough word. I loved it--Kerry's real passion for our troops showing through his usual Senatorial manners!

4. Huh?
"John Kerry preened for blogosphere liberals in an October Georgetown University speech"

How are they making that leap?

The sad thing is, a couple of years ago, I might have been persuaded by that clever idea. But having seen the speech, I'm really curious as to how Michael Crowley is getting from point A to point B.

And frankly, if Senator Kerry (Or Senator Feingold, for that matter) has nothing to offer the liberal blogosphere, so much the better.

6. Whoa! Technical foul!
You can't preen, whore and thunder all in the same article. It's just too confusing. I'm afraid we are going to have to call for a re-write on that one due to overstuffed verbs. (This is just awful. You can thunder and sound crazy, preen and sound gay or whore and sound desperate. But you can't do all three in one paragraph. I have just lost all respect for TNR.)

7. You still had some??
You have a point there. Of course, it's also difficult to "thunder" if you have no spine. TNR is desperate to be relevant. I don't think this article will get them there.

8. Exactly.
If politics is the ridiculous dog show TNR says it is, then why do we need TNR to comment on it for us?

15. The 2006 verb-a-day calendar must be out early.
And they peeked ahead through January.

16. They supported Joe Leibrman two years ago.
And last fall, they blamed Kerry for not supporting the war enough. (That's why he lost, don't ya know.) Sigh!

Clowns to the left of me, jokers to the right, here I am
stuck in the middle with you!

18. Since I'm jewish
I guess it's ok for me to say this - but their numero uno motivating factor is the future of the state of Israel. So that makes them very hawkish on the middle east, and very very close to neocon. Hence the love for Lieberman.
