1. The first one is obvious " Waffle House"
The other ones are impossible to know, but my best guess is that this is BS (or lousy service, who knows)?

3. Likely submitted by GOp operatives. Kerry won the Iowa service people poll
hands down.

They polled all the waiters, waitresses, hotel service, car service people over a year's time, and Kerry won for most gracious, generous and thoughtful candidate.

11. Remember these threads in the primaries?
People actually posting this drivel as a reason not to vote for Kerry. Incredible. :eyes:

2. It appears they have no verification process
Someone mentioned that he won hands down the poll of hospitality (defined as hotel and restaurant) workers in Iowa last year. He is always described as having impeccable manners. I notice 2 were in Alexandria which is near where the Bush campaign was headquartered. Some of the numbers seem unlikely unless he and a huge group were eating. $1438 at Boston Clam Shack - it doesn't sound like a fancy place.

4. I find this hard to believe as well for a couple of reasons
Number one, this just doesn't seem like something John Kerry would do. Number two, in most restaurants, isn't the customary gratuity amount usually automatically added to the bill if it's A.) it's over a certain $ amount and/or B.) you have a large number in your party? I know that's how it usually is in restaurants around here.

If this is true (which again I doubt) Dubya is also a crappy tipper (I looked him up). Not THAT I can believe!

5. You are correct
Edited on Fri Nov-25-05 06:49 PM by fedupinBushcountry
I have 2 kids who work in restaurants. Usually a party of 8 or more and the gratuity is automatically included in the bill. I have even been at some restaurants where 6 was the magic number.

Don't worry if someone well known is a bad tipper it is well known. My 2 kids worked at a restaurant right down the street from Pat Robertson's complex, when he came in not one waiter or waitress wanted to wait on him, he was cheap and also very rude.

7. Out of curiosity I goggled the Boston Clam Shack
all I got were right wing sights linking to this and to others for other liberal celebrities. I tried the super yellow pages - which didn't have them. So this looks like either a fast food place where the campaign ordered a lot of food to go - where you usually don't tip or it's a total fraud.

The Iowa study is far more likely to be the truth - and that's not behavior you change. The only surprise was one said he was with Teresa - and form the entry he paid.

6. There is no way to verify this other than to take the word of the
individuals posting, so it is difficult to take seriously.

Was the senator even the one paying? It doesn't seem likely that the Senator himself, pulls our a credit card and pays the bill in every case. Isn't it true that this is the type of thing (especially during a campaign) that might sometimes be handled by a staff member or assistant so that it goes on the proper account or gets recorded properly?

Another possibility, maybe the tipper wasn't the Senator. (I've paid the tab and had a companion leave the tip before.) Perhaps the Senator wasn't the person paying the bill, but he was just the most recognizable person at the table.

In any case, the Senator must have eaten in restaurants hundreds of times over the course of the campaign alone, 13 oversights (for whatever reason, and I'm not saying they are true) are not a bad track record.

Too silly and petty to worry about.

8. Where did you find this? It's pretty ironic.
If any of this was true, maybe Kerry thought the tip was included in the bill.

Actually it's pretty sad that someone has nothing else to do than post about this. She's probably a crappy waitress and didn't deserve a tip or maybe she wore a bushiter button when she waited on him.

12. From another thread, here:

I don't believe it for a second but the site and comments ticked me off.

9. I don't think this is real
But there is no way to verify it. I do remember reading somewhere last year that the Senator left (or had staff, like Marvin, leave) a $20 on the pillow of the hotel rooms he had stayed at for the cleaning staff. Some of the stories listed on that website don't jibe with that at all. (And that was written down. I shall have to find where, my mental index of where things are written is down for the Thanksgiving holiday.)

10. We fought this during the primaries
I'm not kidding. Thread after thread about what a horrible person Kerry was because of this database. There was an article from Iowa at the time to counter with though, because when the newspaper surveyed the local restaurant staff, the Kerry people were voted as nicest and best tippers.

We knew that thought, didn't we. ;)

13. Another pretty good sign this list is BS - Bush does not tip people when
he goes to a restaurant - If anything, they close the restaurant if it does not have private rooms.
