I cannot figure out how to upload my own avatar on du.

I want to put my fav Kerry pic for my avatar, I've tried and tried, but keep getting that red exclamation point.

on edit - see what I mean - just look at my avatar - lol

1. You have to save it to your hard drive and then

upload it from there.

It says it took it, but then all I get is what you see here.

Are you clicking the right button as far as whether its a jpeg or a gif file? If it's a pic it's probably a jpeg. Um, and once you hit upload you just copy the little url it give you and paste into your avatar box on your edit profile page. I don't know what's not working for you so I don't know what else to tell you.

5. The avatars have a size limit...

Maybe that's the problem. Did you crop the photo or are you using that exact photo size? If you are using the exact photo, you may want to crop the white space off the sides to get it to be more of a closeup and also to make the image smaller so it will fit the required size.

6. it might be better in your signature line

If you have a way of making it smaller (photobucket can do this for you) you just cut and paste the URL into it.

16. Wow! That was after the '71 loss, right?

Geez, he was a, ahm, striking gentleman. (Still is.) Wow, that's a great pic. (Everytime someone pulls up one of these older pics I get this 'blast from the past' feeling. It's Kerry, but, geez, it's that Kerry, the guy from back then. It's an odd feeling since so much has happened since then. Last year Frontline showed an old Senate commercial from '84 and I actually remembered it from when it first ran. Odd feeling.)

I always had a weakness for that full black hair. evilgrin:

7. Hey pirhana. Here's a couple of avatars from that picture

if you want to use one of them. I kind of do them for a hobby.

The full picture doesn't work since it just ends up a blur, but the close ups seem to. I made TayTay's avatar too.

9. Did you try to crop the background off

and keep the whole rectangular? I don't have the right program or I'd do it for you. But essentially let it be a tall thin rectangle.

I think it just looks like a blur when it's not done closer up, but opinions could vary on that I guess.

15. No, it really can't.

You're limited to 48 by 48 pixels and that's how it comes out at exactly 48 pixels high. You can use a picture that's bigger than that, but it will just get squeezed to accommodate that size and will end up distorted.

I went through alot of experimentation and trial and error when I first started making avatars, and learned alot along the way.:-)

The name comes from a Monty Python sketch. It's from a box of chocolates and is a real, dead, chocolate covered frog. :9

I picked it because I love British comedy and I love frogs, so it just seemed to work.
