I love Barbara Boxer - She mentioned Kerry's Iraq plan on Chris Matthews
Matthews gave her a loaded question of whether bringing the troops down in large chunks would bring more risk to the remaining trrops. She was able to bring in several points; turning things over to the Iraqis, self-determination, Bush needs to explain whats needed.

I suspect Matthews may have trouble using the same strong arm treatment he used on the (not shy or quiet) Dean on women.

The main thing he was talking to her on is that she's written a novel that is set in the Senate. His first question was whether we will be able to identify some of her peers. Boxer turned this on him by saying he might be in it. She said it deals with a liberal woman Senator faced with a RW SC nomination. It deals with why people become liberals or conservatives and the relationship with the press. She said some of the characters are composites of her peers. (Now, the question is: Is there is a tall, handsome, silver haired, debonair, very statesman- like Senator? They seem friends, so at least he would be seen poitively)

1. I heard it - was just coming on to post it - yay!
When asked the question of bringing the troops home, she replied
It's like what John Kerry has been saying all along, train the Iraqi troops, as their troop #'s go up, ours can go down.

Well I know what I want for Christmas...Definitely her book!

2. I hope so!
That would be fun--seeing a fictionalized Kerry through Nancy's eyes. I know she thinks so much of him--from her comments at the convention.
I'm almost sure it was her, saying how much she would like to thank Kerry for running--that it was so hard, and you had to take so much grief--she thanked him for doing it for the good of the country.

4. I would love to read a fictionalized version of the Senate
She can say how awful it is to hang out with that doofus on SFRC who is from a Southern State and how she has to stuff napkins in her mouth every time he speaks just to keep from laughing out loud at his extreme dumbness and lack of ability to say anything that doesn't have a sports reference in it. (Whoever could that be? I'll be up guessing all night long.)

She could write about that lovely Senator from the Midwest who is just about the sweetest, more sincere man ever. She could write about his heartland values and how she thinks of him as her rock. Sigh! (Gosh, the mysteries here.)

She's bound to have better sex scenes than Scooter Libby had in his book. Did you read those excerpts in the New Yorker this week? Eowwh, Rethugs can't write decent sex scenes. I can't figure why there are so many Rethugs, they must all be from artificial insemination or something as they can't have come about the normal way. (Yuck! Rethugs are sick, sick puppies. And I wouldn't leave any puppies around them at all, come to think of it, Eowwh.)

Only Dems can write good sex scenes. I wonder if she has any. (Can sitting US Senators get away with writing sex scenes? I guess they can if they come from true blue states. I'm glad she's doing this. There are several Senators that I love, but it would be very strange to imagine them writing sex scenes in a novel. LOL! Modesty and the onlooking mods prevent further speculation.)

5. There's sex, but nothing explicit.
I'm only a few chapters in, though. I guess we can still hope?

Isn't Senator Boxer AWESOME? I'm going to see her speak on Saturday. I'm really tempted to ask her how she concentrates in SFRC meetings with all those good looking men in the room.

9. Oh yeah, my dear, you belong in here. LOL!
I would want to ask her the same thing. (Vektor we need a haiku just for this. I love it.)

I agree, Kerry, Feingold, Obama. Yum! My favorite DU thread of all time involved that committee hearing on April 19th when Voinovich shocked everyone by stating he had big problems with Bolton the Bastard. The camera angle on Kerry that day was, ahm, ooooh, nice. So there was this thread in DU wherein all these women remarked what a good looking man he was. LOL! (Honest.)

Sigh! But then again there are those extras from 'Dawn of the Dead: Flesh-eating Senate Zombies. Coleman is just awful. And Barfbag is enough to put anyone off from ever thinking about sex ever again. (Makes me want to join a convent. A cloistered convent that doesn't even have a TV. Yuck!)

Say hi to Babs for us! I love her. She is great!

17. Sen. George Allen, (Yuck)
Edited on Fri Nov-04-05 09:01 AM by TayTay
I know that there are plenty of bad Rethugs out there. I know that Sen. Santorum's mere presence is enough to cause milk to curdle and dogs to howl and stuff, but there is just something about Allen that drives me nuts! It may be his moronic 'reasoning' process, it may be his propensity for dropping football references into perfectly good Senate Foreign Relations Committee (SFRC) hearings or it could just be that he really is a dumb as he looks, but that guy just irritates the hell out of me. It's the smirk, it's gotta be that smirk.

He shares three committees with Sen. Kerry. (Commerce, Foreign Relations and Small Business.) During the Bolton hearings Barfbag had this awful smirk on his face as he and Coleman thought about the smackdown they were about to deliver to the Dems by ramming Bolton through SFRC. (Honestly, you usually only see looks like that on cartoon villians or mean people before they kick the crutches away from disabled folks. Sigh!) I was glad Bolton didn't get through SFRC with a positive recommendation. I was really glad that Barfbag had to see it as it took him down a peg or two.

He shares 3 committees with Kerry. Ugh! He usually speaks before Sen. Kerry in SFRC and I have to take some Tums in order to get through it. (Bathroom break.) It is a good thing that Sen. Kerry speaks after him as Kerry is very intelligent and restores my sense of composure and my belief that having a seat in the US Senate should mean you have at least a smidgeon of brains. Sigh!

In brief, I can't stand 'em. He drives me crazy. I think this means he will be the Rethug nominee for Prez in '08. Sigh!

BTW, the archives are back up and running on DU. This is my fav DU thread of all time: http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=show_topic&forum=104&topic_id=3510153

6. I read about one of Scooter's sex scenes
in GD earlier this week. I've just got to say he is one sick puppy. The scene with the bear left me rather speechless (and incredibly disgusted).

I think Sen. Boxer's book will seem very topical seems it revolves around the nomination of a SC Justice.

7. Being a sitting senator should linit writing sex scenes to some degree
Edited on Thu Nov-03-05 09:49 PM by karynnj
If she wants to help the Democrats' immage, she can have them embrace their lovely brilliant wives and then close the door. It would be more romantic and probably as sexy. Maybe have some of the single staffers dating. Nice contrast to Republican pornography.

I am amazed how many Republicans have been shown to be perverts. Writing books where 10 year olds are raped (by bears!!!) is pornography. Why is his wife still with him and why has no one questioned if he should be anywhere near children.

Attn: Lynne - look at Scooter - that is what a bad man looks like.
(I have no problem with Lynne's book as described - at least it only involves consenting adults. ) How on earth did this group of creeps ever portray themselves as the party of values?

8. One thing we don't have to worry about -
Bush probably never wrote a book.
Heck, he can't even read one.

10. I can't even stand to read his short comments
I think it would sheer torture to read a book by him. But, as you say we likely don't have to really worry about it. He will have a ghost writer for his memoirs.

11. But Matthews was just talking to a Senator about Clinton and Kerry
being pro-war. Isn't there a disconnect for him there?

14. If that was the one with Durbin,
it was about disavowing the IWR vote - which Kerry also did do. I think they may be trying to discredit him with the anti-war part of the party. 2008 may come down to Hillary vs an anti candidate. Kerry is the most viable - because he's not just anti-war or passive.

So, they're giving everyone else credit for saying IWR in retrospect is wrong - and lying about Kerry.

Wouldn't that be something?

She would be great on the campaign trail.
