* Giving speech non Iraq today. Hmmmmm.
The White House strategy will unfold over the next several days, starting with yesterday's announcement of a new Federal Reserve Board chairman and continuing today with a presidential speech on Iraq at Bolling Air Force Base. Anticipating a barrage of criticism when the death toll hits 2,000, Bush will try to put the sacrifice in perspective by portraying the Iraq war as the best way to keep terrorists from striking the United States again, the official said. He will make the same case in another speech Friday in Norfolk.

Although Bush has made this case often, aides hope the public will be more receptive in the aftermath of the apparently successful referendum vote for a new Iraqi constitution, whose official results will be announced this week. The White House also sees the economy as one of the few parcels of safe political land these days. Bush plans to follow yesterday's Federal Reserve appointment with a call for fiscal discipline at the Economic Club of Washington tomorrow.

Tomorrow will be an excellent day for a rebuttal speech, don't ya think.

1. I do.
I'm kind of fascinated by Kerry's cryptic comment on the Bernanke nomination too. I wonder if he'll say more about that, or if it was just a carefully composed "that's all you'll get me to say on that subject."

4. why did they ask him, specifically, about Bernanke?
Is it because of the Finance Committee? Is that the one that will confirm/reject the guy?

2. The new constitution isn't yet a done deal:
I guess we have to wait for the US 'fix' to take hold.
But if it doesn't and is voted down, the blivet won't have a leg to stand on. I guess we just have to wait and see...

Fate of Iraqi Charter In Balance

More bad news?

http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/middle_east/4372094.stm

Two Sunni-dominated provinces in Iraq have rejected the country's draft constitution, according to partial results given by election officials.

Electoral rules mean the document will fail if three out of the 18 provinces vote "No" by two-thirds or more.

Salahuddin and Anbar both heavily voted against but Diyala, also Sunni, has backed the charter.

Now all eyes are on the largely Sunni province of Nineveh where the result is due to be announced within two days.

3. I stand corrected yet again-sigh.
Apparently the constitution has passed narrowly, just heard on the boob tube.

6. Listening to Feingold on Iraq right now
"Flexible timetable results based.

The objective of the timetable is not troop withdrawal. It is national security."

I see less and less how he differs from Kerry on Iraq.

7. Did you hear the speech??
They were doing their MST3K bit on Stephanie Miller while he was talking, until they got so disgusted they cut him off. I'm sure you'll be shocked to hear it was the 7 thousandth repackaging of George W Fearmonger Bush's greatest hits.

10. Man, GD loves to ignore anything positive about Kerry.
Or they're in the serious grip of indictment fever and can't shake it off.
