Is Cindy Sheehan to Bush what Kerry was to Nixon?
I was just thinking... Could we compare what happens right now in Crawford with Kerry's testimony before the SFRC and all the interviews he gave during the protests in 1971? Back then there was a young veteran condemning with strong language an insane war. And he made Nixon be very afraid. Now it's the mother of a fallen soldier and her language is as strong as Kerry's was. I bet Bush isn't only sweating because of the Texas sun these days. Is this the beginning of the end? Let's hope so!

2. That's funny.

I was just thinking the same thing this morning. Marc and Mark interviewed her on Morning Sedition, and went from that interview to an interview with Seymour Hersh. They ended up musing that the anti-war portion of the American public has been just waiting for a voice, and that voice may well be Cindy Sheehan's.

I think the wingnuts may sense this too since they've been working so feverishly to try to discredit her.

I think we've reached the point where we can say with complete confidence in its truth that there is nothing sacred to these people. When you attempt to blacken the reputation of the grieving mother of a young man who died in your own pointless war you have fallen as far as you can go.

3. You may have a point
Often what it takes to turn the tide is one brave person willing to stand up and speak louder (figuratively, not literally) than everyone else. I think people are often intimidated by large groups shouting for or against something - they can better relate to a single voice speaking passionately about something that has directly affected them. Like John Kerry, Cindy Sheehan is articulate, thoughtful and clean cut therefore more likely to make the connection with average Americans and make the current administration* sweat!

4. there are similarities
Both have earned the right to speak out, that's for certain.

The only difference is that Cindy's supporters are not all physically in the same space so the cameras can capture them, as was true for the VVAW. We are all here online--lol. But if more and more people step out in front of the cameras it will have a bigger and bigger impact. The protest planned for next month in Washington D.C. will be good, if covered! I would seriously consider going myself if it weren't for having to be at my son's graduation on the West Coast.

5. There were mothers then too
And the POW wives. Those moms and wives did the same thing then that Cindy is doing now and it helped enormously. Thank god it didn't take ten years.
