2. He mentioned Tyranny
of the majority and how badly the Rethugs have slammed the Dems and disrespected their rights as elected officials of the people.

3. Seriously angry.
Did you hear Oliphant on Franken just now? Fascinating. He's going to be writing again in 10 days, but spent the day poking around the Senate, figuring out what's going on.

21. Did anyone notice what he did when he said the election was close?
He paused, looked up at the camera, then said it with audible quotes around it. We have definitely not seen the end of this tale.

I hadn't seen him speak in a long time...from the first sentence he owns that room.

<swoon>

(Oh, and hi Kerrycrats! :hi:)

22. Hey cutie, How's it going?
I completely agree. (Well, he had me at, "Mr. President, I rise today to speak..." Sigh! I am besotted with the man when he does that.)

Gawd he was good today. I'm so damn glad I voted for him for the Senate (and for the Presidency.) Gawd that man can speak. It's not Clinton speak, wherein a person can charm the birds out of the trees. Kerry's speech, when he's on, is that particular appeal to conscience and the call to uphold the real meaning of our ideals. (I am so susceptible to this. I just turn into a melted puddle.) When Kerry speaks, it is with conviction and with intelligence and purpose. It is the appeal to what makes America a great country and the knowledge that we have an obligation to keep it that way by upholding our own best traditions. Sigh! I just love it when he does that. (Whome: Do you remember when he turned it on like this at the end of that '96 race? Gawd that was incredible. He was just great.)

BTW, my husband said that when the Senator addressed the group of Mass citizens that were visiting Cap Hill last month that Kerry was pissed off at the Rethugs. He said he had never seen it this bad and that he was just done playing games with these people. Well, I guess he is.

25. A lot of people who don't really know
a thing about him are going to be shocked.

When I was reading through that negative thread, it amazed me how little these supposed "activists" know about the candidate they "supported." They have no idea who he is.

The 1996 race was amazing. I love the title of the article Charlie Pierce wrote for Esquire last summer. Keep in mind that Charlie Pierce knows Kerry personally, and is not talking through his hat. The whole piece is a MUST READ:

    John Kerry: Bad Ass Politician

    The Misunderestimation of John Kerry
Beware of this man. He's won every race that he was supposed to lose.

And he won this one, too.

One more quote, by Betsy Vasquez of the Moderate Independent:

In Kerry, the nation has a confident, quiet man, a man whose method of charm is to allure rather than sweet talk, a proud man who believes he knows in which direction the nation needs to be led and that he’s only going to say it once or twice, and if you’re not listening, it’s your loss – ask your friend what he said later. He’s not going to vie for your attention like a cheap harlot, he’s going to wait for you to approach like any dignified person would. And he’s not going to admit he was wrong but simply say that he didn’t say what you say he did or that he changed his mind.

In the end, John Kerry is a leader of a stock the nation has not seen in a long time. In an age where even average citizens are accustomed to squealing and rambling on cue anytime a camera is pointed their way, John Kerry is old school cool. So while now Democrats and advisers and the media will say he is too cocky, aloof, arrogant, and so they dislike him, would never consider him, in the end the nation will come to understand Kerry's brand of northern charm. They will realize that the reason this guy doesn’t talk so much, isn’t leering over their shoulders at the bar, buying a round and bragging on and on about how he is the real deal is because John Kerry is, in fact, the Real Deal, and that speaks for itself.

28. haha, I can certainly tell--
no more Mr. Nice Guy. More Incredible Hulk. Hell hath no fury like a Kerry when fairness is being violated.

When I was reading your post I was thinking that Kerry would have been totally at home being among the founding fathers, helping to frame the Constitution, wouldn't he? He has that sincerity of purpose, that idealism, that dedication to principle that they had. For whatever reason--his heritage, his education, his upbringing--he's as purely patriotic a Senator as there ever was.

When * was at school, they said when he didn't like how the game was going, he'd just change the rules so he could win. That's what the far-right-controlled repubs are doing in the Senate now. Think there's a connection? You bet.

Exactly. (And I am too.) And just listening to him talk like that makes me feel safe somehow; maybe it's a "daddy" thing.

23. I noticed that!
It's something I've been thinking about a lot. What did he say? Something like "I know I lost"? But it did have audible quotes around it. I was working at the time, but there was something about the way he said it that made me look up.

Oh, and I second your <swoon>. :loveya: :loveya:

Massachusetts has ball-park Senators! (Hope that doesn't sound like 'putting on airs.")

That speech was every reason I still post here (or anywhere on the 'net) for Kerry. A brilliant and passionate man who knows how to give 'em hell.

Well more properly, tell the truth and they just think it's hell.

Sigh! Big love here. I feel so satisfied today. That was f*cking brilliant. (BTW, mucho love on DU and Kos.)

16. I listened to four Dems in a row,
and Kerry carried the day, no question! Injustice and the disregard for principle really turns our boy into a holy fireball! He sliced 'em and diced 'em. He glowered. He raged. He was better than Kennedy, Byrd, and Lautenberg.

I simply loved it--how can anyone not be moved by words delivered like this? :loveya: He's still got what he had in 1971 in the Foreign Relations Committee testimony; I heard that same fire today.

I'm revising my opinion: he should never give up his seat in the Senate, even if he does run for president at the same time. The country's loss would be too great if he were to have to leave public service entirely.

I do too hope he can stay in public service. I agree that he shouldn't give up his Senate seat, on the other hand, I know a lot of people don't want him to run again, but he was badly smeared and trashed by everyone. I always thought that they wouldn't have smeared/trashed any other Dem presidental nominee like the did Kerry. I guess I am for revenge. I know we have to be careful what we ask for because I want him to do what's best for himself and his family.

20. Well, there are always ways.
I was thinking about that at the convention last week. Senator Kerry needs to come home and sooth over some hurt feelings. It will take some time.

The hurt feelings exist. They are not really Senator Kerry's fault. Everyone knows that. But Massachusetts is feeling unloved and somewhat abandoned. ("We really missed you John! Honestly, you know, we need you here, not galavanting around the country with strange people. Of course your KidsFirst program is brilliant. You are from Massachusetts, we expect no less sir.")

This can be repaired. My much esteemed and greatly admired Junior Senator is rather good at reminding the voters why we liked him enough to elect him to the US Senate in the first place. Give this some time. The Senator needs to go and have spend some time in the western MA (no, not just Tanglewood or that lovely spot in the Berkshires, though he can certainly stop in. They really are lovely spots.) He is a most excellent politician and will be able to do a lot of damage control and might just sooth the grumpies who want him all to themselves. I have rethought some of my earlier reticence about him running concurrently. It would not go over well, but he just might be able to thread that needle. I now think it might be possible. (Long, long story as to why.)

same rhetorical question I've posed before: how the hell did we get such a stupid little illiterate unable to speechify twit representing the USA. end of rhetorical question. Good speech Mr. Kerry and thanks. and wow
