So, the convention is going well, it's full of Kerry people
Edited on Fri May-13-05 09:52 PM by TayTay
ANd comments on the Kerry campaign, and full of people who were in Pennsylvania, Florida and Ohio last year. It's fun. We pulled into the Lowell lot and every car had a Dem bumper sticker on it. LOL! (Okay, I know that's to be expected, but I loved it anyway.)

I met some staffers for Sen. Kerry. They would like to keep in touch with the people who are still 'blogging' (posting, writing, keep in touch) for Sen. Kerry. That was kind of out of the blue. What should I tell them? I have a busines card for someone. Talk it over and let me know.

Sen. Kerry couldn't make the Convention. He is in London on family business. But, hot damn, there are a bazillion Kerry people here. It's fun, interesting, energizing, sad and oddly ennervating all at once. I like it.

I only have a few minutes tonight to post, cuz I'm sick and I'm tired. (Sinus infection and bronchitis, but I better be dead before I miss this gathering.) Candidates everywhere. I met my Cong. tonight, two candidates for Gov, a slew of candidates for other offices in the Bay State and other stuff. (And OMG, the most gorgeous doctor who started Catholics for Kerry last year. Oh baby, he can be my doc any day. Brainy, honest, conscientious guys who went to Ivy League schools and are hot. Oh yeah, we can still turn 'em out in the Bay State.)

Fire and I are dead serious about wanting to work as bloggers or whatever for any campaign he might have in the future (hints hints). Dead serious: we'll both be out of school. If you could pass that along and get us contact info...

Well, I'd certainly never be able to thank you enough.

Edited to add: We'd love to do ANYTHING that put us in good position with the campaign ( or proximity to HIM!)

7. Thats sounds like a good deal
These folks are just now getting back into 'real life.' I asked this guy how the Seantor was doing (Actually I told him to tell the Senator to get some rest. I am a cheeky little monkey, telling a Sen. what to do, damn.)

He said what my husband said 3 weeks ago, the Senator is transitioning back to the Senate. He is catching up on all the MA business that needed doing and plotting what to do next. It's process.

Please keep in touch. Do you like the e-mails. What do bloggers do? Ahm, (my brain is getting tired, forgive me.) Ahm, can we help you guys out? What do you want from us?

Stuff like that. I figured I would log in tonight and get better hints about what to say tomorrow when I see them at the booth.

Is she still in England?

I'm thrilled to hear that at least there you aren't hearing Kerry bashing.

How do the staffers want to contact us? Do they want our email addresses? If so, I'd be happy to give them mine.

Take care of yourself!

5. First of all, wht are we still doing
are we still together talking about politics in general or Kerry. Are people politically energized, depressed, what? (What do bloggers do in between elections?)

These are folks who were on the road working last year. They are not in the internet world. So, what should I say?

8. Interesting questions.
It's all brand new territory, isn't it?

If I had to make a sweeping statement I'd say that we were pretty demoralized by the election, but that the way Kerry bounced back inspired most of us to pick ourselves up off the floor and get back into it. I know I'd feel like a real wimp if I were still moping around, with all he's been doing.

I think we don't want to give up the fight. We all wanted desperately to see Kerry president, and for the diehards, anyway, that hasn't changed one iota. It wasn't a casual flirtation. For most of us (well, for me) he is our president. He just is.

I'd let his staffers know how much we love getting his emails. How much we love to hear his voice talking to us, and how they inspire us and help give us a direction.

I'm not done, but I'm going to post this so you know I haven't gone away. continued...

9. It was so nice to see this convention
Edited on Fri May-13-05 10:14 PM by TayTay
The MA elections are 15 months away, but it was a little like a fall campaign tonight There were big signs up for the announced candidates and a feeling that I can exhale in MA again. The KErry folks were privately beginning to pick sides in the Gov race and all the other races. That puts them back in the game. Which is incredibly nice.

I heard from a woman who was a Kerry staffer who has signed on to a Gov race here. She told me that she started working for Kerry at 18 and never thought she would ever find someone like him again. (Testimonial to another MA candidate for 2006 followed.) Wow, she sounded like one of us.

Want to tell me who? You can pm if you prefer. I haven't signed on to either Reilly or Patrick yet. I keep hearing Reilly has no charisma. Perversely, that makes me want to vote for him.

There has to be enormous drive to get Romney out - though who knows? Maybe he's walking away? Pick up any inside gossip?

29. I hate to even mention this.
This thread being so nice, but it occurred to me nonetheless when you mentioned Kerry staffers. To quote Teresa, Kos can SHOVE IT. He's talking out of his ass when he says that Kerry's staffers weren't enthused about him, and here's further evidence of it.

12. continued...
I've thought about this, actually. Not everything we post here is about Kerry, but it was Kerry who brought us all here, and he's still the force behind this group.

And for all the silliness, we are a very intelligent and serious group. I've wondered if he even knows we're still around. And I've wondered if he would want to give us assignments - off the top of my head, I don't know what they might be, but if we could be useful to him I'm sure amost all of us would be thrilled to sign on to something like that. A kind of blogger corps.

I'm happy to be a Kerry defender, but I'd love to do more. If it could help. One thing I'd want him to know about us is that we are not a bunch of second-guessers and backseat drivers. We are 100% in his corner. We believe in him.

where do you blog (I hate that word blog. Yuck! I said write because I'm odd.) I said DU, because I'll be damned if I'm going to say Kos to a Kerry person.

They would like to know more about this strange world. Where are people physically located? Is it a MA thing or more national? That kind of stuff. I will talk more tomorrow when the meds really kick in for me.

You could really get the sense that people are starting to recover and move on. (Moving on can mean moving on to 2008, so this is a good thing.)

EDIT: My Catholic Doctor for KErry did mention a disheartening statistic. Kerry only carried MA catholics by 51-49%. Yuck. We have a seminar tomorrow on how to break out of the Rethug fear mode that this doc will be at too. (What a coincidence.)

Catholic-by-proxy here (the BC thing), so I'm very interested in the subject. Were people intimidated by the Vatican? That statistic amazes me, frankly. I'll be curious to hear if they have a theory about why this happened.

25. The churches were very anti-Kerry last year
The Catholic churches around here were all but threatening people with excommunication if they supported Kerry, were pro-choice or pro-gay-marriage. My state rep (Barbara L'Italien) was actually told by her church's priest to step down as choir leader, because she's pro-choice and supports gay-marriage.

I second what WEL said above. Although, I would kinda like to finish my master's degree (12/06, if I stay on track) before accepting anything like that. I don't want HIM to think me some sort of flighty starstruck thing unable to keep commitments. :P

32. Staffers, ahm, yeah, I forgot about that staffer meeting last year
Edited on Sat May-14-05 06:42 PM by TayTay
I'm kind of burying this story in the middle of an old thread. I forgot about this, cuz I think I was blocking it last year. OMG, this is kind of funny. (TayTay is stupid.)

Last year I went back to the city in MA I used to live in for a political fundraiser for a Mayoral candidate and general Dems stuff. I was talking to Jimmy, who was a paid MA staffer for Kerry who was very busy helping to organize the Dem Convention in Boston in July. (This was early June.) We got to talking about his boss and old times in MA and stuff and well one thing led to another and I inadvertently told him a "My Sister" story. (Some of you know what I mean.)

Apparently, "My Sister" stories should not be told to staffers of Presidential candidates 4 weeks before their nominating conventions. I got the dirtiest look ever and was closely questioned about the stuff in general. (Don't ask. It will remain vague in this forum. It is also completely innocent. I kinda told it wrong. In retrospect, no more stories for Kerry Staffers when they are under pressure.) Jimmy didn't speak to me for the rest of the night. Shit! (Screwed that contact up.)

So when I met the new guy who took Jimmy's place (because apparently only Marvin is permanent) I did NOT tell him a "My Sister" story. And so I got to meet lots of people and had a wonderful time. At least I now have proof that keepings one's mouth shut can be a good thing. (And what was I thinking last year?)
