3. hi WesDem , thanks for posting
i don't think Chris would have Clark into his home if he felt Clark was bad to his stepdad in any way. and i'm sure he appreciates all the help Clark gave during the campaign also.

6. Hi, J17
Always nice to see you. :hi:

I'm not one who believes there's any bad blood between Kerry and Clark. Politics is politics, not real life.

Bye for now. :)

that's why it's so amazing how some supporters of people can get into huge arguments which turn really nasty.

all the while the people they support are going on able to work together and in many cases with with Kerry and Clark they are good friends also.

5. good. I hope people begin to realize that Kerry and Clark are longtime
friends, and really care about each other. The fighting between their supporters is bsurd, especially since Clark has very much aligned himself on most issues with Kerry. Clark was even one of the few who backed up Kerry's testimony to allow gays to serve openly in the military many years ago.

8. I'm back and here's what I've heard
Again, I wasn't there, but I will give what bits and pieces I know of.

First things first: Chris Heinz has a lovely and comfortable apartment, but not overly grand or huge, is a charming host, and is handsome in a "JKF Jr" kind of way.

I can attest to the last point :D

This NDN "conversation" seems to have come out of a similar one held with Wes in California a few weeks ago. There were 50 people there last night. Wes spoke, and a Q&A followed.

Wes was introduced by Chris, who spoke of how much he enjoyed Gen. Clark when they were together on the campaign trail. He mentioned that, even though he wasn't present at the time of Clark's endorsement of Kerry, he said he was very moved watching it and seeing the powerful energy between Kerry and Clark. Later, Clark brought up the same subject in the course of his remarks, and Chris again seemed emotionally touched.

(I don't see who wouldn't be; I was crying my eyes out watching it on TV.)

Rosenberg said they could have gotten a lot of people to come and talk about domestic issues, but they wanted Wes to talk about national security.

Wes said the biggest national security threat is a domestic issue, because the the two-party system is at serious risk.

He said Democratic principles are sound, we just have to make sure that we articulate them in a way that people can see that we really do want what's good for the country. One of several examples he used: "We don't want people walking around on the streets with machine guns, but it's not that we're against gun ownership, we want what's good for the country."

He talked a lot about Democrats defending other Democrats, which is something, as Clark supporters, we hear a lot from him, that the country won't believe that Dems can defend the country until they start defending each other. He spoke of how angry he was at the swift boat attacks. He said Democrats would call him wondering maybe we should have some kind of investigation into the purple hearts, (the fuckers!!), just to clear the air, and he said, very emphatically, NO!, that's not what you do...You stand behind and support the nominee, not doubt him.

He talked about the emergence of India and, especially China, as future superpowers, and his recent Kazakhstan visit, and how it was made again clear to him how disliked we are in the rest of the world and how this hurt him deeply.

He talked about the Party's obligation to lift people up, how vouchers let us off the hook for public schools, leaving the least among us to fend for themselves.

He talked about how, in the military, everyone is taken care of and how appalled he was when he got out of the army to find that noone was out there fighting for those who had no power to fight for themselves.

He'd met a "lifestyle coach" at some event who coached rich people. He said the people who really need a lifestyle coach are those who are having trouble getting by. He talked about how Gert used to counsel military families who were having a hard time paying their bills and he thought that out in civilian life, this type of "coaching" has to be made available to those who need it.

He talked about faith and how we must never say the "Christian right" but only the "extremist right" and the "Christan wrong" and pointed to David Brock's book The Republican Noise Machine.

He said his focus is on 2006 and getting rid of Delay. He said that Harry Reid is a very strong and tough guy, and very good.

Chris thanked Gen. Clark and said two things he was waiting for were getting rid of Delay and taking care of Santorium who "has my father's seat."

Wes walked around shaking hands and taking individual questions.

That's about what I know about how the evening went. I didn't want to leave you hanging, but there will probably be a fuller report in GDP by someone who was there, but maybe this will hold you until then. :hi:

Clark's comments were great and on the spot. I WISH WISH WISH more people around here would listen to him when he talks about Dem unity. He's a good, smart guy.

12. Any tidbits on Chris?
I have a bit of a crush (okay, maybe a lot of a crush) on Chris. Since most of the summaries are mostly about Wes Clark (to be expected, of course), do you have anything you can add about Chris? I, too, wish that he would run for something, because he seems like a really smart guy . . .

13. Chris tidbits...
Hey Lefty!

I don't have a lot to tell, actually. Have you ever seen him in person? I think I already mentioned that he's quite handsome in a JFK JR sort of way. I didn't talk to him or anything though. I'm not exactly too forward in a situation like that so I didn't have the nerve to go up to him. It took me a number of times of seeing the General in person before I had the nerve to say more than "thank you General" to him and he's so easy to talk to.

He's got a confident air about him but not a snooty or arrogant one. Very nice. Hate to burst your bubble, but he sat holding hands with his girl the whole time Wes spoke. :(

He has an obvious and deep respect for his stepdad and what he's done in service to his country. It was touching to hear him say that Rick Santorum "has my father's seat". He hates Rick Santorum so that's a point in his favor.

I wish I could remember more of what he said in his intro and closing remarks. At one point he said something about Republicans and then reminded us that he grew up in a Republican household but that we all knew what kind of Republicans we were up against now.

If I remember anything else I'll come back and tell. I did take a few pictures of him which I hope I'll post somewhere eventually...but they're not great shots.

His apartment is nice but not huge. He's a wonderful speaker and a commanding presence. I'd love to see him run but after what he's seen of politics, who can blame him if he chooses not to. He's got everything going for him. Why put up with the shit he'd have to if he can make a difference in other ways.

Hope that helps some....I did like him a lot. :)

Carol

17. Thanks!
Thanks for the info, Carol! I'm very, very jealous that you got to hang out at his house. I've not met him - unfortunately, he managed to be the only member of his family who didn't visit us here in Tampa during the campaign. Grrr . . . And, don't worry, his having a girlfriend doesn't bother me. He's allowed to have girlfriends, he's just not allowed to marry them. :P It doesn't sound like it was that actress that he had been dating, however, as the actress was a blonde(she had played Helen of Troy in the movie "Troy" with Brad Pitt.) Anyway, thanks so much for your tidbits - let me know if you think of anymore. I'd also love to see your pics when you post them.

Thanks!
-Elizabeth

20. Hey thanks, LeftyLizzie...
It took me a long time to finally get this done and this is the first time I've put photos up like this but I think you should be able to screen the photos in the NDN album here:
http://carol-nyc.magix.net/

I believe it's in the second to last photo where you can see Chris holding the girl's fingers behind Wes.

Photos aren't the best...but not too bad.

Tell me if you can view them.

Thanks!!!!!!!!!!!

I thought they were pretty good but I wish I'd gotten better ones. It wasn't really a picture taking crowd, though, so I didn't feel comfortable taking too many.

I wish you could have been there, LeftyLizzie. It was fun.

And if Chris is reading....I just want to say that I wish he would run for something. :)

25. I love General Clark
Edited on Wed May-11-05 05:20 PM by Kerry2008
Incredible life story, and a great figure for our party. I hope he runs in 2008, even if Kerry does. I will always be loyal to Kerry, but I think Clark would be a clear Kerry running mate if he won the nomination. And vice versa.

:) I love seeing the Clark people in here, being friendly to us Kerrycrats. I can honestly say the Clarkies and Kerrycrats are nice when it comes to not bashing other fellow Democrats.

It's nice to be here. I agree. What's with all of the bashing of other Democrats? We are in a fight for our lives here and need all of the help we can get.

I respect and admire Senator Kerry too. After Clark dropped out, I worked very hard for John and John to win the election...doing stuff I'd never done before in my life. And I was devastated when we lost. I still am. Imagine how much better off we'd all be right now if we were dealing with President Kerry instead of Bush. Ugh! :(
