Basically the same story as last week's but with a few little tweaks that make a difference, from today's
Boston Herald:
Dayton has also appeared to backtrack somewhat, saying his quoted remarks sounded "worse than I intended," according to the Minneapolis Star-Tribune.
- snip -
In a recent TV interview, Dayton suggested Kerry's commitment to health care for kids was rooted in his presidential ambitions.
"Any politician that embraces children clearly has some motive beyond that, because otherwise they would be doing something about it rather than talking about it."
Dayton is a co-sponsor of Kerry's "Kids First" health-care plan to extend coverage to 11 million uninsured children.
"Sen. Dayton is one of the Senate's leading supporters of John Kerry's Kids First health-care bill and we're proud to be working with him," said Wade.
The multimillionare Dayton has a reputation as a bit of a colorful figure on Capitol Hill.
He drew headlines - and considerable ridicule - last fall after closing his Senate office on Capitol Hill in the weeks before the November election, citing a vague terrorist threat against Congress.
Keep in mind that this is from the oh-so-Kerry-friendly Boston
Herald.
So. Do I have this straight? Dayton is accusing himself of having ulterior motives for sponsoring the kids healthcare bill?
Note to TayTay: I was going to let this one die a natural death, but am seeing it referenced more and more in the media, and decided a debunking is called for. Too much cheap piling on, IMHO.
Edited to add, Dayton sounds like he may be something of a nutcase.
