About that Mark Dayton story...
Edited on Sun Apr-24-05 02:38 PM by whometense
Basically the same story as last week's but with a few little tweaks that make a difference, from today's Boston Herald:

Dayton has also appeared to backtrack somewhat, saying his quoted remarks sounded "worse than I intended," according to the Minneapolis Star-Tribune.

- snip -

In a recent TV interview, Dayton suggested Kerry's commitment to health care for kids was rooted in his presidential ambitions.

"Any politician that embraces children clearly has some motive beyond that, because otherwise they would be doing something about it rather than talking about it."

Dayton is a co-sponsor of Kerry's "Kids First" health-care plan to extend coverage to 11 million uninsured children.

"Sen. Dayton is one of the Senate's leading supporters of John Kerry's Kids First health-care bill and we're proud to be working with him," said Wade.

The multimillionare Dayton has a reputation as a bit of a colorful figure on Capitol Hill.

He drew headlines - and considerable ridicule - last fall after closing his Senate office on Capitol Hill in the weeks before the November election, citing a vague terrorist threat against Congress.

Keep in mind that this is from the oh-so-Kerry-friendly Boston Herald.

So. Do I have this straight? Dayton is accusing himself of having ulterior motives for sponsoring the kids healthcare bill?

Note to TayTay: I was going to let this one die a natural death, but am seeing it referenced more and more in the media, and decided a debunking is called for. Too much cheap piling on, IMHO.

Edited to add, Dayton sounds like he may be something of a nutcase.

Dayton is a lightweigh, that's for sure. Way to go Senator. Outing yourself as having an ulterior motive for co-sponsoring the KidsFirst bill (or not.) And kudos to you for bad-mouthing the guy who, ah, made you co-sponser the bill? (What? Is Dayton on medication of some sort? I mean really what would that conversation have been like in Dayton's World?)

Sen Kerry: Hello, Mark. Yeah, this is John. Listen, I am running for President again and I figure the way to ingratiate myself into the American psyche is to fund children's health care. If your office is open and not under the same terrorist threat that shut down that county in Ohio on election night, you might want to come over and co-sponsor this.

Sen Dayton: Uhm, I don't know. Fully funding health care for the 11 million kids who don't have it sounds like a cheap political stunt to me. I mean really, what kind of a Democrat cares about social programs. You must be running for President again, right?

JK: Ahm, yeah, I think I might. I'm planning on all those kids with the new health care to turn 18 by the time of the Iowa caucuses and automatically vote for me. It's all part of my diabolical plan to overrun America with programs it desperately needs.

MD: I figured as much. You are only doing this for blatant political advantage and to get the chance to have these kids implanted with special 'Vote for Kerry' brain-implants, right? Heck, why don't I co-sponser this. Sounds like something I both want to be involved with and that is bltantly political. Either way, I win or maybe lose, not sure. Sound good to you John?

JK: I think you ought to have your meds checked Mark. I think your dossage is off again. See ya!

That's my take anyway.

3. That's hilarious TayTay.
And yes, he does sound like he's possibly going off the deep end. I'd love to hear JK actually saying the words you've put into his mouth, too!
