1. I suggest...
...If you missed it to watch the replay. Was very interesting! Biden, Dodd, Sarbanes, and obviously Kerry made some great points.

5. I don't want to cause heart failure or anything
But the following post appeared on the DKos Bolton Part I thread:

Has Kerry had a face-lift? (none / 1)

He looks better than I've ever seen him. NTTAWWT

don't know what NTTAWWT means.

8. He was so pissed, you could tell
Then he was soooooo upset that Voinovich spoiled his chance to ram the nominee through the committee.

Gawd, sometimes politics is amazing theater.

And, btw, what happened to Sen. Kerry? I haven't seen him look this good since, I don't know when. Yum! Whatever he has been doing lately, I hope it continues.

9. i think he has gained weight and able to hold on to it
the intensity of the campaign got him to lose weight and he is already naturally slim. Teresa said he can go on without getting hungry also.

Maybe being on crutches for 2 or so weeks, made him gain weight. He looked fine before though.

14. Yeah, but look at the Texas pics
Edited on Tue Apr-19-05 08:25 PM by TayTay
He looks extra good in those pics. (understatement.) Whatever he did, keep doing it. His face has filled out just a tad and it is really really ahm, nice. Wicked nice. Hmmmmmm, today is a good day.

Did you guys notice how shaken Lugar was at the turn of events. He was basically flummoxed. Dems just basically told him to sit, down, roll over, now, Who's Your Daddy? That's right. We want the hearing in two or three weeks. Sit. Down. Roll Over. Hahahahahahahaha! "Who's Your Daddy, Sen. Lugar?

20. Lugar was in such an all fired rush to get a vote
It was like Bush was going to give him a bonus for an early vote. Having the meeting open rather than closed seemed to work in the Dems' favor, as the Repubs had little or nothing to say. Except that they didn't want to name any names on TV.

13. The only good thing about Coleman
was that after him Kerry sounded soooo distinguished, reasonable, intelligent and concerned with the historical significance of the Senate and specifically the FR committee. They are so clearly on two separate planes of existence - and Coleman seems to always try to bait Kerry and it never works. Yapping little dog!

15. I can't stand Sen. Allen
IT was worth the whole damn thing just to see him trying to use his melon to figure out what a vote in Committee meant. "Ahm, can we still vote for Bolton now or does this mean we failed or what?" Hahahahahahahahaha!

21. All of our Dems looked good today
I was thinking that probably some Republicans watching at home were secretly wishing that those Dem senators were "their" guys. Well, come on over then, I say!

I told my husband about the hearing, and he was interested enough to watch the replay with me--and he has a really short attention span when it comes to politics. But this was a bit of real theater today!
I think he was most impressed with Biden, but also enjoyed seeing Kerry on the job.

19. That is a scary site
They really really hate us - and had absolutely no idea what Kerry, in particular was talking about. History is clearly lost on them. (They also didn't like his rhetoric on truth, or on integrity.) It's weird they seemed to like Coleman and Allen the best. What's strange is that no one has any concept there of Bolton's past - which they would like, but they have no idea why the Democrats are so obviously angry.

It's good coming back into the light.

31. they hate us because it's fun
It doesn't go very deep, I don't think. It's like with our lefties at DU. One senator says one thing they don't like, and everybody dog-piles on them. Then the next day they are on to the next victim to villify. It's a sport. Did you notice how the freepers all jumped on Voinovich in an instant. It's like that--our lefties and their righties are like herds of lemmings sometimes. They take one small instance and make a rush to judgement about a person. :eyes:

24. ha!!
Voinovich listens to testimony about blocking intelligence reports, harrassing analysts, lying to discredit people, and they don't understand what he could have heard to make him concerned.

Although, I just heard the sound byte on the 10:00 news. Sure makes the Republicans look quite reasonable.

I'm WAAY to cynical.

And did you catch the comment about the haircuts? I always thought Republians had weird haircuts, or boring anyway.

27. I am most astounded
by the patently false claim that the Dems are the ones with bad hair.

COME FUCKING ON.

John Stewart said it best when he showed a group of Puke politicians - all with the same flat, lame-ass side-parted heavily shellacked bowl haircut, and said "This is what happens to your hair when you don't let gay people touch it."

Everyone knows Dems have way better hair and are far and away the sexier party.

Um, Kerry. Hello. Best hair ever. TOTAL FUCKING HUNK OF HOT SEX.

28. Yeah, the hair
Best hair on a pol from Massachusetts goes to JK. Mittens thinks he has good hair. Ha! It's attached to a Rethug brain. That devalues it right there.

Whome and I noticed last week at another luscious hearing that Sen. Kerry was looking extra fine. We thought that maybe the camera angle in the Committee hearing room was favorable to him. But, geez, all camera angles are favorable to him now. I don't know what happened but I am happy about it. He does us proud. Heck, even people in DKos noticed, which is a friggin miracle.

You know Kerry went through a lot even before the Pres race. His mother passed away in late 2002. That had to be stressful. Then just a few weeks later he found out he had prostrate cancer. Then he had the stress of the Presidential primaries and the run in the GE. Maybe he has just now had a real chance to actually recover from 3 years of stress and exhaustion. Maybe this is just how he looks when he's just himself. (I want those genes, by the way. No fair.)

36. Well yeah - he is gorgeous naturally -
He went through a lot of stress for a while, but prior to the cancer, the death of his parents, a grueling campaign, horrible character assassination by RW thugs, and stolen election related hell, this was our Kerry -

He is finally back to his old, strong self! A little grayer, a little better. Beautiful!

32. They're just jealous. Dem men are way more attractive!
First, no politician has better hair than Kerry--can't think of any male who has better! The righties are totally jealous. When his hair gets a little long, like it looked yesterday, it starts to curl at the sides. Catnip!

Second, related to appearances, I can usually tell if any particular politician on tv, unknown to me, is a Dem or Repub after hearing them talk for a minute or so. It has something to do with tone of voice, and expression in the eyes. Repubs have a cold, aggressive tone to their voices--unemotional except for being angry and contentious. Dems have more compassion, and aren't afraid to show it. They sound reasonable and cooperative. If those on the right would just suspend judgement for a few seconds, they'd see the difference.

That's what makes Kerry and other Dems more attractive in the end--their compassionate hearts, their spirit, their brains, their convictions. Yes, JK is handsome, but if he had the same body but an ugly personality, it would make his outsides look ugly too.

34. Agree on the hair
What's really unfair is that his hair looked perfectly in place in the pictures where it was wet! (on his wedding and in the pool) The tape where he debated the ugly O'Neil, his hair was even longer and curlier. I doubt there was a single woman in the audience whose eyes left JK even when his opponent spoke.)

Yesterday, Kerry looked best when he was essentially either begging or trying to shame the Republicans into remembering the significance of where they were. It was so obvious that the history of the Senate and the committee was passionately important to him. He sounded so sincere and his comments seemed directly from his heart. (It's strange that he provided both this moment that was the most high minded and some of the sharpest comments at the begging when Lugar was trying to be a dictator. )

35. He does have so much heart
Why can't people see that?? He's driven by his passion for doing things right in government, for the people, whom government is supposed to serve. It's passion directed by keen intellect--a powerful combination!
