I agree with Ed Schultz about moveon.org
Putting out an ad attacking a Dem Rep for one vote doesn't seem to cool to me.

What say you?

1. Agreed
I don't know who Moveon is trying to cater to by doing this. If it's an attempt to appear "non partisan", well, the Repubs aren't going to be fooled. If it's an attempt to be lefty freeperish and decide that it's okay to tear someone down for one vote (even if it was a horrible vote, like the bankruptcy bill), well, then Moveon has officially lost its relevance, IMO.

2. I think it is indeed lefty freeperism
The Dem Party is apparently supposed to be just like them or else.

It's funny, but in my travels over by Righty Freeperland, they're complaining that their do-nothing party has moved too far to the left. Substitute right for left, and it's just like what we hear from the leftists.

3. I agree! As a Maryland Dem, I resent putting
a good MD Dem like Steny Hoyer down. He is a good liberal like 95% of the time. Why don't they pick on Lieberman if they even have to pick on Dems?

:eyes:

I think Moveon's officially jumped the shark.

10. I love that expression
and I love where it came from. I can't believe that Happy Days has effected our vernacular. People will be saying that for years to come, and have no idea where it comes from.

Edited on Mon Apr-18-05 08:48 PM by JohnKleeb
Ed is right about this. I not only find it smacks of purism, because Hoyer is generally great but I find they are wasting their money, Hoyer has been in office since 1981, he aint going anywhere.

9. If anything, this is likely to make his constituents circle the wagons
I don't think moveon.org understands that they alienate people when they act like this.

But then we've seen similar folks go after John Kerry as Repub lite when we know he's more liberal than most, just more hawkish than some people would like, is all.

11. Yeah hes popular
This isnt going go too well with regular people, it really wont, I have a teacher who used to have Hoyer as a congressman and he really likes him. Its people like this that the party should be appealing to, not
some activist who takes every vote they dont like as republite.

14. Not that I want to move TOWARD the DLC
But they may be right about moveon.org.

But I don't agree with Frome's suggestion to move away from them.

Even so, it feels like they may be moving away from us of their own accord. Things like this certainly aren't attracting rank and file Dems to their agenda. A shame, as Elshiva says, because they could be helping to organize the grassroots. Instead, they choose a negative action.

They strike me as quite angry and humorless. Bleck.

6. It nice for fans of suicide
Edited on Mon Apr-18-05 08:51 PM by TayTay
It is idiotic, at best, to do this. There will NEVER be unanimity in the Democratic Party. (It is actually not a good thing to be unanimous. It is a good thing to be relatively united. There is a difference.)

As Ed Schultz correctly stated, this is giving aide and comfort to the Rethug enemy. MoveOn is on the road to irrelevance if they keep this up.

Again, we need moderates. They drive me nuts from time to time as much as anyone else. But they correctly reflect the will of the people in the states they represent. Moderates serve a purpose, they keep your party from going too far off into LiberalLand and falling off the cliff. The moderates filter the ideas and decide if they can be sold to a much larger segment of the population than just the base. We need this. It is strength, not weakness. Moderates sell the ideas to a public that can be wary and skeptical of change and wants such changes vetted.

I am not a fan of political suicide by Dems. So, I find this to be stupid beyond belief.

8. Yes, we have to remember sometimes these folks
are just representing their constituents. Those constituents will be mighty peeved if some outsider tries to unseat their elected official, I reckon.

As for moveon.org, I suspect they're not exactly Dem.

This is what I tried to say in another thread, and I guarantee someone is going to misunderstand. If all you can do in the Dem Party is attack, punish and criticize, I'd rather you went where you can be happy with the message of your party, and work for change.

I think some of these folks are unhappy with that idea, because it means a loss of power, as there is power in numbers. But sometimes I think they're doing more harm than good, esp. when they go negative like this.

12. It just seems so naive
Is MoveOn trying to announce that they have the numbers to seriously mount a primary challenge against Hoyer? Are they roaring for the sake of placating their own liberal base and seeking to serve notice that they are peeved at the Bankruptcy Bill vote. So am I. But getting Hoyers canned and replaced with a Rethug will not help that cause. Getting some money from MoveOn and others into races that are close and might result in a R to D turnover would help. If Dems ran the House then some of the most odious parts of this bill would never have come up for votes. I don't get it.

18. Dems are supposed to stand for democracy
And that means that everyone gets a voice in the process. Moderates and Lefties should respect each other's opinions.

The Repubs' weakness is that they are allowing too little diversity, and they've skewed far to the right as a result, and those guys will drive them over a cliff sooner or later. We should take a lesson from it.

19. I don't remember who it was that said it
but someone from MoveOn said that they owned the party now or something like that. This also smacks of lefty freeperism in the sense that they feel entitled to have everything their own way just because they "helped". It's pretty damn self-centered.

22. donations from angry Democrats
Byrd is too popular because of the IWR. i have already seen some people defend Byrd while going after Hoyer and some others.

but someone like Hoyer who isn't really popular would play into the angry democrats sense of victimhood. of how the party is betraying them and all the other things they always complain about.

but what you are talking about is a good idea and something i had been thinking about. another thing is as i was talking about with Kleeb. Hoyer is not a member of the dlc and yet these people are ranting on about the dlc.

there are some who do point out Byrd's crap votes from time to time but usually in response to another post in a thread rather than a thread on the issue itself.

post number 2 is so ignorant, Hoyer is the second highest democrat in the house of representives, and Freddy while I used to fight with him in the primaries is right, Byrd is to the right of Lieberman.

33. Freddie Stubbs, lol
the irony. Never mind.

I'll go look at that thread. Between that and Kleeb's stuff, I can put together a quick blog. And maybe throw in Clark's comment as well.

I had to do a piece on Vanessa and you wouldn't think that would take a long time, but I like to collect all these links and jazz. :dunce:

This shouldn't take as long, since everybody else has already done the work! lol.

Thanks.

What could they possibly be hoping to achieve with this? It makes so little sense on any level I'm reduced to wondering if there's some good buddy of theirs who wants that seat.
