News on Vanessa Kerry and Chris Heinz
Vanessa Kerry ran in today's Boston Marathon, and her dad (along with Teresa) was there to cheer her on:

And an excerpt from a related article (from http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/2005/more/04/18/bc.run.bostonmarathon.n.ap/index.html):

Vanessa Kerry finished in about four hours. Her dad was mobbed by runners and passers-by to wish him well, get his autograph, and snap pictures.

The Massachusetts Democrat is off crutches but still walking with a slight limp after recent knee surgery. And mum is the word on another bid for president in 2008.

"We're working on '06," he said. "It's way too early to think about that."

============================================

In other news from the Heinz and Kerry offspring department, Chris Heinz has announced that he will not be running for office in 2006.

PITTSBURGH (AP) - Chris Heinz, the stepson of U.S. Sen. John Kerry who was widely rumored to be considering a run for Congress, said Monday that he won't seek office in 2006.

The son of the late Sen. John Heinz III had stumped for Kerry during his unsuccessful presidential bid last year, sparking rumors that Heinz would follow that with his own campaign against U.S. Rep. Melissa Hart. Heinz, 32, is the youngest of John and Teresa Heinz Kerry's three children.

"I'm definitely not doing it in 2006. I've thought about it in my life, but it's just not right at this particular time," Heinz told The Associated Press by phone from New York City, where he lives.

1. That's a terrific picture.
He is such a wonderful dad. Vanessa looks in great shape. It was a bit too hot today for marathon running.

3. I agree, it was rather warm.
But Vanessa Kerry made a great run. If this is her first Boston, then to finish in 4 hours in 70 degree temps is great. Good for her. She has a warm and generous heart to do that for the Dana Farber Cancer Center. (The Jimmy Fund!)

I wonder who she was dedicating the run to? She has some markings on her shoulder that seem to signify that this was especially meant for someone or someone's memory. As a physician, it could be a patient or someone she met at Harvard Med. (She is at Harvard Med, right? I can't remember.)

4. She is/was at Harvard Med -
but has been in London studying. She must have come home just for the marathon.

13. My mistake
I was listening to the radio this morning and they mentioned that Dr. Kerry (I just like saying that, I think it's very special) finished the Marathon in 3:31:25. (Three hours, thirty-one minutes and 25 seconds. Exact time is due to having a chip in the number runners wear that records when they leave the starting line and when they cross the finishing line.) This is a very respectable time.

Oh, and she was running on a bad ankle. Wow! And she raised $20,000.00 to fight children's cancer for the Dana Farber. :loveya: for Vanessa. Quite literally, you go girl! :loveya:

5. Hey, welcome back
I trust your son's performance was great! It must have been unbelievable to see your own flesh and blood performing at on stage. Much congratulations!

9. Thanks!
 It was great - we basically followed him around from performance to performance all weekend. I'm really tired, but it was worth it. He's doing so well - I wish everyone could get a chance to pursue their passion.

I missed you guys, though - no computer for four whole days!!!!

6. After seeing all the great new pics
I most heartily concur with that assessment. (I get more and more formal as the pics get better and better. I don't know why.) They are indeed impacting my view of the distinguished Junior Senator from MA in a most positive and warm way.

Ah spring. I certainly do get gushy in the spring.

7. lol--he needs to make up a sign that says
"It's too early to think about it yet!" and hang it around his neck!

The more I read about these mob scenes, the more convinced I am that he is our duly elected president.

12. I like the way you think,
Ginny!

I agree. Between Kerry's mob scenes (and our own ever-expanding DU group) and the shrub's shrinking poll numbers, you don't even need to read tea leaves to get that sense...

10. yeah, both Kerry and Clinton are great fathers
i remember when Bush said the thing about the leash. the media let him get away with that. if it was any democrat who said it they would have been in trouble.

11. You can tell when the offspring turns out well
Unlike a pair of twins who will remain unnamed

14. You are right about that, but this time it's not the double standard
but the different values. A democrat who said that would get a huge amount of criticism from his/her base. But the strict father Republicans interpreted this as Bush taking control of the twins. (even though obviously they are out of control) I was shocked it was said so soon after the photos from Abu Graib.

Kerry'a answer was so fast and smooth - and good. In the case of the Kerry girls, the "leash" is the values he (and their mother) tranmitted to them. This "leash" seems to work better any way. I was amazed how many times, when speaking about their own values, they sounded exactly like their dad.

15. I agree
My daughter got to see, Alex, Vanessa, Andre and Cate at her college last fall. Her first words to me about them was how their parents values came out in them, compared to the twins and their written notes, especially the one when they said their hampster died, and they thought that was funny, it made my daughter cringe.

18. Well....
:yourock: May I say, Kerry looks AWESOME in sunglasses hehe. He looks downright cool to me. Vanessa is in great shape!!!!

And I was sorry to hear Chris Heinz wasn't planning to run, that would have been fun to have two family members currently in Congress from the Kerry/Heinz blended family. Senator John Kerry and Rep. Chris Heinz :) Too bad really
