14. His daughter
Needlessly wonky correction, if I may. Teddy K turned to Vanessa and said, I think we're married now. (And Where oh where is the videotape of my Senatorial Delegation being blessed by the Native American Shaman. I would pay good money for that.)

Teddy K is a great guy. He is very funny and is a real kidder. He and Kerry must have some good times together. (Kerry's sense of humor is so dry sometimes, but I bet Teddy loosens him up a bit.)

you are right. but it was still funny. i didn't hear the part before about how a guy asked him how it's like to serve with someone so great as Ted and the person asking was Teddy himself. but i loved that.

i love all of these Ted Kennedy stories.

8. This is one of his great lines of the night
"There's nothing about the president's budget that's truthful or makes sense." He went on to say that the cost of making the upper bracket tax cuts permanent is THREE times the cost of Social Security over the same time period. So JK argues that if we could slightly adjust the tax cuts, there would be NO crisis in SS.

But we all know that Bush will never do that.

I'm happy now. It's been a while since I've seen Kerry speak, and I just got my fix. He sounded good, looked good, made so much sense, especially when compared to Chimpy.

And hey, there's actually a Kerry-positive thread in GD related to this program.

Ok, don't hit me. I still go over to DKos hoping for a peaceful reconciliation. (I have that whole hope over experience thing going for me, ya know.) This has too many lines about his choice of ties, but it's pretty straightforward. (He does need to get new ties. I like those and all, but how about some blue ties.)

I only send Kerry floatie hearts from within this group. (I feel so cheap now. I really need to grow a spine. I am going to send Kerry floatie hearts on DU-P. I have been inspired.)

Does anyone else notice that the pro-Kerry people are starting to come out. I think they were either all afraid to post during the shitstorm phase or were in therapy and couldn't use keyboards. What say you?

Since I am feeling sort of classy at the moment (residual effect of watching Kerry) I will forgo the 'rattling around in that body' jokes. (You're Welcome.) I waffle between catnip and LLL. I will let you know which one wins.

don't last long. (You can measure their length with an egg timer.) But it has been awhile since we have seen Big John in the proper lighting and with a relaxed attitude and a chance to explain himself. (Dear Lord, we had that Dawn of the Dead lighting at the Terry McAuliffe party that made everyone look ghoulishly eyeless. This is just great stuff. Of course, he was in Massachusetts and it's not like the Kennedy Library is going to make Kerry look bad. He is ours, after all. Should WEL ever read this post, I mean that in the most inclusive and broad-based way possible, Mrs. K.)

Yeah, I feel both happy and incredibly sad. It's like I just saw a glimpse of the best damn meal I could ever hope to have and now I have to go back to eating cold spaghettios out of a can. Damn it.

24. Ooooh, this is a strange night
I am so happy to have seen Kerry in fighting mode. And boy has he changed since he first announced for Pres waaay waay back 2 1/2 years ago. I know we have discussed this before, but he has just dropped all of those nuances. (Well he has dropped a lot of them anyway.) I think this was the speaking in Senatorese that people complained about. I don't see how he could have been more plain spoken.

And, in all seriousness, I am just really heartened. Kerry seems energized, not depressed. He is talking about getting grassroots involvement (which dovetails with what Dean wants to do as DNC Chair.) This is incredibly good stuff for the Dems and I see Kerry as doing an incredible amount of road trips between now and the '06 races in support of Dems who live beyond MA. Good for him. I don't know how he does it. I mean seriously, he looks really good, he sounds great and he is in fighting mode. What happened to the 'you're supposed to take time off and navel-gaze for awhile after such a loss.' He really is made of tough, tough stuff. (Tougher than I am anyway. I would have been curled up in a fetal position for awhile if I had to take what he had to take last year.)

25. I know what you mean
The good senator has truly developed and matured throughout these past 2 and a half years. The campaign was a crucible which has made John Kerry a tougher, more articulate, and more outspoken crusader for the American people. I respect him so much now because he IS still willing to stand up and fight for US.

A weaker person would have collapsed and given up under the weight and viciousness of the personal attacks of the last presidential campaign. Time and time again, John Kerry is able to withstand the fires of persecution and tribulation and emerge stronger and more determined.

Just like his courageous anti-war protests eventually helped shape and change American foreign policy, John Kerry's brave stand now will eventually change and strengthen our entire country.

51. You're absolutely right!
Not only has he not sat around depressed, he immediately started to work on the promises he made us during his campaign. To work towards all the things that this country needs, health care for kids, election reform, help for the environment, not to mention his trip back in January to try to mend all the fences broken by the shrub administration. He means business, and when he made us those promises, he damn well meant them, even if he's not living in the White House. How can anyone doubt him, not believe? He's making good on all of it right before your eyes.

(and it's only a guess) he'd draw on some of the local talent. People used to hardball politics and who know him well.

One of the reasons I think this chat went so well is that he and Oliphant go back forever, they know each other so well, and there's a level of comfort in that. He knows Oliphant would never play a cheap gotcha with him.

Don't forget - prime trivia - back in '71 when Kerry was about to testify before Congress it was Oliphant who pushed him into the hearing room! That's a long history.

He seems to have gotten even better than he was at the end of the campaign. I loved his statement about about making the country right if it was wrong (I can't remember his wording).

I still don't see how half the country couldn't see beyond the RW stereotypes. Kerry was just so solid in his ability to answer questions intelligently and forthrightly. It just seems if you asked people abstractly to describe the qualities you want in a President, the answer you would get would be a description of Kerry. The only thing harder for me to get than their rejection of Kerry, is that they assign positive qualities to Bush, that I just can't see.

I can't think of an election where the both of the candidates were seen so differently by their supporters and their opponent's supporters.

Here's somebody who admits he doesn't have all the answers. Here's someone who can think on his feet, so to speak, and respond thoughtfully to a variety of questions.

At this point, if Comcast offered the Kerry Network, I would sign up. All Kerry, all the time. At least people with functioning brains would get someone worth listening to, especially considering that C-SPAN, while worthwhile, also has scary people calling in to its programs.
