Pure Catnip: Sen. Kerry shops for a new motorcycle
Boston Herald, All, p 18 03-03-2005
By Gayle Fee and Laura Raposa with Nichole Gleisner
File under: Hog Wild.

Kerry flips for Fat Boy

And speaking of motorcycles, our spies in Everett say they saw none other than hog-happy Harley rider Sen. John Kerry wheeling and dealing for a new bike at Boston Harley the other day.

"He was negotiating a trade-in for his old bike," said our chopper spy. "And he was whining about how much they wanted to give him for it."

Well! Maybe the White House wannabe should ask momma for a raise!

But Kerry pals insist the junior senator is not in the market for a new ride.

"Senator Kerry enjoys window shopping for Harleys. They're his obsession," said the senator's spokesman, David Wade.

Wade said Kerry is particularly taken with the Fat Boy autographed by our favorite World Series winners that is on display at Boston Harley.

"Like every other member of Red Sox nation, he'd probably do cartwheels down Ted Williams Way if he could ride (it)."

In other words, he'd be all revved up.

I hate the snarkiness of the Herald, but the story is pure catnip. (Newbies who don't understand catnip can ask and an explanation will be provided.) We need some catnip after the Bankruptcy Bill depression.

1. Maybe they felt they needed to give him a hard time
Edited on Fri Mar-11-05 10:11 AM by karynnj
because in the last week or so, you and others posted a few articles where they actually seemed to be being nice. But, why do they use a word like, whine.

2. They usually do give him a hard time.
If they are being nice I get to wondering what they are truly up to. Massachusetts papers have a major ego and attitude problem when it comes to Kerry and have ever since I can remember. As far as the word whine hell I think that is all the dumbasses know anlong with the stupid ass word aloof (I hate that damn word). They are the damn whiners that don't appreciate having one of the better senators in Congress. They are the ones who are always complaining and hunting for something to whine about when it comes to this man. If they want to see the real whiners all the hell the bastards have to do is take a good look in the mirror. Some Massachusetts newspapers are well known for having the biggest whiners and shit for brains in the country working out them. (Sorry Massholes but it is true)

3. Yeah, I have heard it so much
that I automatically tune it out. (I had to remember the Herald snarkiness was in there for this post and note it for non-Massholes.)

I love the fact that he is thinking of getting a new bike. I wonder if he will take it out on the Revere Beach PArkway again, like the last time. And Teresa won't ride on the bike, at all, ever. Sigh!

6. Indeed, well I haven't thought of that
before! (Ahm, not in this group at least.) Of course, I am in favor of the Helmut Laws.

7. Kerry didn't wear a helmet for a long time
i think it was only around the time he started campaigning for president sometime in the primary that he started wearing one.

8. We have a Helmut Law in MA
Edited on Fri Mar-11-05 01:07 PM by TayTay
So surely he would have worn a Helmut. (One of those big face covering things that my oldest brother hates.)

4 of my 6 brothers have bikes. And one of my brothers has one of those big bikes that Kerry is looking at. Mui MAcho.

10. NH has no Helmut Law
Live Free and Die indeed. And they have that big Bike Week at Laconia on Lake Winnapausaukee in June. I have cousins who drove cross-country from California to attend that in 2003. Fun. Lots of bikers, beer and bar hopping. (My brother went with his daughter.)

Anyway, Helmut Laws are good, I would love to take ride on a bike and I wish it were Spring so all this could happen. Sigh!

21. Definietly
I'm glad he wears one now. My dad used to ride a motorcycle and had a horrible wreck. He busted his knee and now has fake teeth. Hate for that to happen to Kerry.

11. Speaking of Teresa and the bike. . .
I remember reading an article where she said she did ride on it once with him, but she made him go very slowly, and only rode around the block because it scared the crap out of her. I thought that was really cute, and I can sympathize because I would have reacted exactly the same way.

13. This Thread Just screams for this photo:

erry arrives on a Harley-Davidson motorcycle at a rally at his Des Moines, Iowa, headquarters, July 26, 2003. The motorcycle is owned by Sen. Kerry's Iowa campaign manager John Norris, although the senator says he has his own Harley in Massachusetts. (Photo: AP)

14. Okay, that is a great pic
but he shouldn't ride without a Helmut.

I have this argument with my brothers all the time. It may not be cool, but it does protect the old noggin from head injuries. And if anybody needed to protect their brain from injury, well, goodness, it's my esteemed Junior Senator. Dear Lord, Teresa must have fits over that. I would.

To his defense he was probably driving really slow so everyone could see him. Still...Helmut!

16. Does he frequently ride without one or something??
If he does... shame on him! (Never thought I'd say that.) This pic doesn't look like he's putting himself in great danger, but it shouldn't be typical. Wearing one wouldn't detract from his hotness on one of those bikes. :9

And he is thinking of getting new bike? Wow, the other one was just purchased in 2002. My brother got a new Harley last year. He hadn't ridden a bike since his PK days. (PK = Pre-Kids.) On his first ride on the new huge bike, he wiped out on the soft shoulder of the road. Takes some getting used to having something that big and powerful under you. (A bike, people, a bike.) You have to re-learn how to handle a nice ride like that. (A bike, people, a bike. OK. All right then, you describe what it feels like to ride one of those. I'll wait.) Oh dear.

18. Why don't they talk about Bush's money?
I was tired of people on the right talking about how rich Kerry was and all that. At least Kerry knows what it's like to have a REAL job (the bottle factory) and be poor (sleeping on friends couches after his divorce with his first wife)! Why don't we talk about how rich Bush is?
