1. Harry Reid ?
Edited on Thu Mar-10-05 06:53 PM by JI7
interesting. how about we kick up some of those Kerry versus Reid threads where people attacked Kerry and praised Reid as being a fighter.

and i hear Joe Lieberman voted no while Bayh voted aye.

of course i still like Reid and support him for leader. but i'm just pointing out the problems with some Kerry bashers who bash him just to bash without even knowing or caring about the facts.

5. on domestic issues like economy and civil rights Lieberman has a good
record. far better than many of those who are worshipped on DU such as Robert Byrd.

it's foreign policy where Lieberman differs in that he is far more of a Hawk compared to most Democrats.

but he does deserve credit on the areas he is right on.

Got any Dostoevsky to read?????

I saw Kerry vote. He did his alpha-male thing with Durbin - put his hands on Durbin's shoulders. Looked very friendly though. They were laughing about something.

7. from what i hear Kerry's choice for Senate Leader was actually Durbin
although he wasn't opposed to Reid. he just favored Durbin. they are pretty good friends. actually Kerry is good friends with almost everyone in the Senate including many Republicans. just shows what kind of guy he is and what people who actually get to know him see in him.

16. That was cute!
Of course, Durbin's kind of a little guy. He'd really have to reach up to put his hands on Kerry's shoulders.

8. There is NO excuse for this vote. All my optimism just ran down the drain
I don't think I can handle this one. This is as bad as if they voted for Bush! WTF good is hanging together on Social Security going to do when they vote for something like this? The anti-choice votes wrapped up in this bill were a nice touch too! Apparently they rejeted an amendment that would prevent abortion foes from declaring bankruptsy from being caught in legal battles relating to their cause. :bounce: :bounce: :bounce: At least Kerry voted right ,AGAIN. But it really isn't making much of a difference.Sigh.

9. It has to pass the House
We can at least continue to make people aware of what's being done to them.

LUTD Joins Effort Against Bankruptcy Bill
10 March 2005

Politology has called for a blogosphere-wide effort against the bankruptcy bill. I took the liberty of joining that effort, primarily because I have long believed Americans agree on more than we disagree on, if we could just get the smoke of partisanship out of the way. This Bankruptcy Bill is a prime example.

I think here at LUTD, it is more the punitive nature of the bill than the fact that it does nothing to reign in predatory lending practices, although that is a concern as well. A self-described GOP bankruptcy lawyer posts:

“I oppose the proposed changes. However they are couched, they are based upon reactionary social attitudes we haven't heard since the 1920s: that it's somehow "dishonest" and "immoral" for consumers to file bankruptcy. The idea that our entrepreneurial and credit-happy economic system encourages taking risks and borrowing on credit, and that some risk-takers will fail, or credit card holders overextend themselves, is the foundation of the bankruptcy system.”

This is exactly right. This is also the purpose of corporate bankruptcy law and there is no reason individuals should be held to a different standard than corporations. This bill will sharpen the unfairness between the corporate and the consumer.

Politology blogs: “There's appetite for a blogosphere-wide effort against the bankruptcy bill. I will be including a list of conservative and liberal weblogs that are signed on to this effort. All you need to do is leave a comment, preferably a trackback (now enabled), or drop an email, and endorse the effort on your own weblog.”

13. If the Democrats ever want to reclaim
their title as the party of the working class, this vote should have been a no-brainer. People try to make excuses for Biden, saying he's from a state with a lot of credit card companies. Well, Massachusetts has a fairly large finincial services industry, and you don't see our Senators voting for this monstrosity of a bill. :grr: :puke:

Today, despite the cold weather (and more snow on the way), I'm really proud to be from Massachusetts.

19. So am I
These states had both Sens vote NAY on the Bankruptcy Bill.

California
Connecticut
Illinois
Maryland
Massachusetts
New Jersey
Washington

New York had Schumer Vote Nay and Ms. Clinton didn't vote. Ms. Clinton had previously voted YES to invoke Cloture on the bill, so I'm not sure how she would have voted on final passage.

Sigh! I guess we Dems have a lot of hard work ahead of us to get the votes in line. I'm a bit depressed over Harry Reid (and angry after all the Kerry-bashing this week over the alleged Reid v. Kerry dustup stuff.)

21. big time Democratic States
also, i read another post which had an article that showed the top states with highest levels of bankruptcies are all Republican state which Bush won.

i'm pretty sure Hillary would have voted against the bill since Schumer did and they usually vote the same. so i would add New York to the list also which is another Dem state.

What the F*** is wrong w/ these bastards - are they that deep in the pockets of the damn credit card companies??

There is no other explanation for this kind of perfidy.

You hit the nail right on the head. God only knows how much money in contributions these birds get from the credit card companies. I'm sure it's not pocket change.
