2. Senator Kerry did a great job. And Rumsfield actually was agreeable
and referenced several comments Sen. Kerry had made stating that he agreed with him.

Transcript and video are not available yet.

3. Surprisingly good PRE- show write up of Kerry and Rumdfeld in 2001
They do not SAY Kerry was right, but his words really were extremely prescient. Bush amplified "terror" comments kept the US terrorized, while Kerry's shine in pointing out the truth - they win if we live in fear.

Senator Kerry, now the Chairman of the Senate Foreign Relations committee, was also a guest on Face the Nation on September 23, 2001. He said that day that getting Americans to live their lives and to keep the economy moving was incredibly important in the U.S. response to the attacks.

"If you want to do an act of patriotism, if you were going to buy a car, go out and buy that car. If you were going to do some trip, go do that trip. It is safer to fly today in the United States than it has been in a long time...Americans must get on the with business of being American," he said.

Kerry also made an important point about the role intelligence would play in the decade long war on terror that started with the 9/11 attacks -- intelligence that ultimately led to the killing of bin Laden.

"This is not like any war we have ever fought... and the tragedy is, at the moment, that the single most important weapon for the United States of America is intelligence. It's the single most important weapon in this particular war," he said. "And we are the weakest, frankly, in that particular area. So it's going to take us time to be able to build up here to do this properly."

For all the blatant attempts by all Bush allies that this is Bush victory, it actually validates Kerry's 2001 words and recommendations. It is so obvious that a media that has NEVER credited Kerry for much has these few articles that do. In his case, the facts make the case - not partisan advocates pressing his case.

4. Video of Kerry on FTN
From wisteria's comment, he was first - so no comment on Rumsfeld's call that it was a mistake to end torture.

As Wisteria said, he was very good. He has a very good defense for the seals killing OBL - his mentioning that OBL moght have had a way to blow up the building is a really goos reason - it would have killed the Seals, made it impossible to prove that OBL was there and all the intelligence would have been lost.

5. Thanks Karyn for the link. And, as for Rumsfield and his torture remarks,
I heard them, but considered the source and moved on. Rumsfield doesn't strike me as a guy who will ever admit that he was wrong.

6. It was a good interview, despite Schiefer's mistake,
Edited on Sun May-08-11 01:28 PM by Mass
He introduced the interview by saying Kerry was chairman of the Armed Services Committee (this was not in the interview, so Kerry was not able to correct).

Here are a few write-ups on the interview:

Kerry, Lugar Doubt Pakistan Was Unaware of bin Laden’s Compound

The senior Democrat and Republican on the Senate Foreign Relations Committee said Sunday that they believe Pakistani officials knew al-Qaida leader Osama bin Laden was hiding in a compound 35 miles from the capital of Islamabad, even as President Barack Obama’s national security adviser insisted there is no intelligence to prove that.

“I find it very hard to believe that people didn’t know,” Foreign Relations Chairman John Kerry (D-Mass.) said on CBS’ “Face the Nation.” “It is extraordinarily hard to believe that he could have survived here for five years or more in a major population center without some kind of support system

It came after the town hall in Boston yesterday, where Kerry spoke about the intervention and Afghanistan. It seems this is the only thing the local media heard (that and the fact that Brown gave the Republican address, where he made a fool of himself with his poor delivery, but they wont tell you that).

Afghan war dominates Kerry meeting

Kerry, chairman of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee, said he supports President Obama’s plan to begin bringing home troops in July, but cautioned that withdrawal may not be swift nor simple.

“I, too, want those troops home,’’ said Kerry, who said he will soon travel to Afghanistan. “I think we’re keeping faith in the effort to do due diligence, in order to really look carefully at how to extricate from Afghanistan.’’

Kerry: Pakistan fine ally
Richard Weir By Richard Weir
Days before he leaves for Afghanistan to get a firsthand assessment of the war, U.S. Sen. John Kerry told a town hall audience yesterday that he wants to see a withdrawal of U.S. soldiers this summer and does not support reprisals against Pakistan for sheltering Osama bin Laden.

7. JK was brilliant, as always!
Clear, on and to the point. Nice counter to Rumsfeld I am sure (though I admittedly didn't bother bother to watch THAT part of it). :)

I am watching it right now, and yes he is brilliant, but I have to be petty -
He looks great! I haven't seen him in a while. Whatever he did, or is doing, he looks more handsome than ever.
Wow!

I just wish I didn't get so depressed every time I listen to him - the man who should've been President.

:loveya: :D

And he really does seem more relaxed, rested, and in his element perhaps more than ever...to me that comes across on film as with this interview as it does in person during the town halls, etc. He seems to be really happy doing what he is doing....and doing it exceptionally well! :)

That JK was handsome and brilliant in this interview. :-)

And I LOVED how respectfully Schieffer listened -- none of the inane interruptions we usually see on these shows!

But I also wanted to point out that the Senator was reporting in from Pittsburgh, which means that I hope he and THK were having a lovely Mother's Day!!!

Hope they had a lovely Mothers' Day weekend especially as JK prepares to go overseas again and hope Teresa is well!
