Kerry speaking on the Senate floor now - on CSPAN2
Edited on Fri Apr-08-11 11:25 AM by karynnj
He wanted 15 minutes, but the Republicans objected.

Kerry is against week to week funding - it's an incompetent way to fund the government. Says they need to reach a long term agreement and they are adding ideological measures. Kerry thinks they can get an agreement - mentions that it is the first time that this has happened since the 1990s - when the Republicans held the House.

Kerry is ANGRY. Asks how this looks from abroad - the US can't get an energy policy, can't get an infrastructure policy, can't fix our schools - and can't get a budget. The Democrats have compromised to well more than is reasonable - not about making cuts to help the deficit. A small group of people intimidating the Republican leadership. Letting small group dictate. Rigid ideology is moving to shut down the government. All the voices of moderation on other side are not being listened too. 100% of the cuts are coming from 12% of the budget. Asks if the Pentagon's spending is all perfect.

The only things being cut are whet some have wanted cut for 40 years but haven't been able to do it.

Says the other side forgets how we got here. Two tax cuts - now we have a deficit. then two wars - one unneeded, Then he spoke of how they let the foxes guard the chicken coop and we had the financial collapse.

He then spoke of the 65 (? my memory bad)riders - all ideological.

Then his time was up.

3. I missed that - and will watch it
I can understand ALL their anger.

The House is using the economy as a hostage to gain all the things they couldn't win through a standalone bill. For Boxer, the threat to Planned Parenthood - JUST FOR IDEOLOGY - and stripping the EPA of the ability to regulate green house gases. Not to mention, the precedent this leads to - that they can destroy everything that people have worked for just because they are crazy enough to shut down the government.

Was reading text of his remarks on Facebook and in the article I posted in another thread--amazing, as always. Once again, the Senator is so powerfully persuasive and on point...just telling the truth! Not surprised the Republicans objected to him getting 15 minutes, LOL. The longer he and others on our side tell people what's REALLY going on with this mess (that the GOP/Tea Party alliance are creating, with their games), the worse for them! :D Man, I am so proud he is my Senator, though in my heart he's always been! :)

6. Lucky indeed! Especially Boxer, IMO. She rocks!
I cheered SO loudly when she beat Carly Firiona in November..though I had very little doubt she would pull it off. :D

7. So did I. Actually, I cheered that California made all the best choices...
...in that election. From Gov. Brown all the way down the ticket...including the proposition on the environmental laws. It was so much better than I dared to hope.

You would see one VERY depressed YvonneCa around here is we had Senator Carly and Governor Meg. :7
